I just wanted to let you know that the buzz has already been going on about Adobe's project "Dark Matter" aka Adobe Phtoshop 8. There are some new features that sound interesting.

It's scheduled to come out in the fourth quarter of 2003.

I have a confession to make... I still mostly use PS3. I bought the upgrade to 4, didn't really care for it, so I basically only use it for PNG.

Guess that shows my level of un-expertise with the program, LOL!

sounds awesome Photoshop 8, what I also wonder, will there be a bigger zoom lvl then 1600%? Since if you pixel you sometimes even wanna get closer!

Interesting tidbit: I heard that Adobe will no longer be release Chinese language versions of PhotoShop starting with PS8, mainly because they spend so much money translating it and hardly anyone purchases that version because the high piracy rate. If you speak chinese, you are out of luck .

patrick, do you think that it makes such a large difference for someone used tot he chinese language to work on a graphics program that's in english? ...I mean I understand the HELP files aren't much help... but the software shouldn't be that much different?

I think there could possibly be two aspects that would make it bad -- if you speak soley chinese and don't know English, I think it would be difficult to learn Photoshop without being able to read the tooltips/menu options/etc. -- of course once you learn those then it really wno't be an issue. Also, I would imagine that the Chinese typesetting options would be a little bit different, that is just a guess though.

If I was trying to learn a program that was in all Chinese, I would definantly have a hard time -- but I think if they are seasoned users then the English version would be of hardly any difference to them.

Honestly though ... how many of you ACTUALLY own, bought with MONEY a copy of PhotoShop ?
It is one of the best software titles in history, but I think the price is insaine for multiple licences

They must be learning the english version.Recently in Bangkok they had pirated english copies of photoshop 8 for sale 4 dollars.(I regret not getting one)

We do not, and never will, (in-fact it's against TOS) support nor recommend pirated software. Please refrain from doing so here.

Huebdoo, I have purchased it for work. I agree -- like many great programs -- it is not priced for your average Joe to buy for cropping their family photos. The pricing is not insane though, if you have a genuine need for it, the cost should be well worth it to fit in your budget.

True enough.... I guess once you have to take the step to go legit, it gives your heart a skip when you see how much everything costs.
My only suggestion to others is to look at purchasing what fits your needs, rather than getting something by other (Shaddy means)

I agree 100% -- there are quite a few good alternatives out there in the < $100 range, not to mention stuff like Gimp that is free.

I have to say that Photoshop Elements is a very good program when you are talking about the < £100 range. Most features that everyone uses are there, the only real thing lacking is CMYK support which for most web designers isn't really a problem.

By the way, you can get Adobe and other programs such as Dreamweaver/Office as educational versions for a lot less than normal. To qualify you must be either:

a: student
b: teacher
c: involved in education in some way.

Worth a try if you fit into any of the above categories.

Only thing is you cannot use them for anything commercial.
