JimWorld Forums: I want to design a nav bar and i need help.

The shape I want is rather odd. I have Photoshop 6 as of now so I'm sure I can do it. What I want is:

side view

-\
-//
-/

/

I want so use the bubbled area for my nav bar title and the lower plateau for my buttons/links. If someone has done this I would appreciate a breif tutorial. I've tried with multiple layers using bevel/emboss but it just doesn't look right. I want it more sleel looking with curves rather than exact edges.

Edit: Please be forgiving of my drawing. hehe One more question. How do I get a shiny metallic texture going?

Thanks,
-William

Honestly, I have NO idea what you're trying to do. Could you post a link to what you have done so far or email me something, and I'll see if I can help you...

If you do not already use photoshop plugins.. I suggest you look into getting some, there are many nifty effect tools available..

I like some of the Eyecandy ones available from www.alienskin.com

I appreciate the input.... I've decided to go with colored cells in order to get a nav bar up. Half of my family, who will be using this site, are on dial-up anyways so straight html is the best way IMO.

Take care,
-William

You don't necessarily have to go with a really high resolution graphic that is large and loads slow just because you have a texture on your images. You can optimize many of them quite small and still have a very sharp looking effect. There are quite a few add-ins that you can download from Adobe Xchange that are user submitted and easy to use that will give you the 'effect' that you're looking for.

Hi Mit, why don't you check out the free templates available here? Just look under "web templates" in the tabs at the top. smile
