Really what it comes down to is RGB is for the screen. Light is being emitted and you add colors to get different colors. In RGB no light emitted is black, an equal amount of Red, Green and Blue makes white.
CMYK is for printing, inks. No ink on a white piece of paper is white, all inks makes a (muddy and messy) black. CMYK is subtractive, white light is hitting the inks and they absorb big hunks of the spectrum and reflect back a small portion, so Cyan absorbs all the other colors excepy Cyan which it reflects.
