JimWorld Forums: Allaire HomeSite

I have been exchanging emails with Allaire regarding improvements I would like to see in HomeSite.

First on my list would be the ability to search/replace elements across a whole website and have the program allow for the fact that some pages may be in subdirectories ... that is, asking to replace:

"index.html" ==> "default.html"
would result in
"../index.html" ==> "../default.html"
in subdirectories

thus saving us hours in updating sites. Not to mention that I'd be a whole lot more willing to consider sitewide navbar changes if I could do this ... and I would certainly be willing pay money for this feature.

While we have their attention, does anyone else have any improvements to suggest?

Ughhhh, dont make it like DW3. If i wanted a crappy WYSIWYG i would get it. I like homesite 100 times more than anyother program...and i have tried alot of em.

Understood. We all have our preferences; in my opinion, it's just a matter of what it takes to help us do our work better and faster.

My "problem" is that I like the functionality of HomeSite ... but would on occasion like to write ad copy in wysiwyg without the code getting altered (okay, I'm fussy). DW3 (which I also have) has an html editing mode (window), but it in no way has the functionality of HomeSite. HomeSite has a wysiwyg window, but ... nope (at least the last time I tried, which was months ago).

It's too bad ... if these could be integrated, I would pay good money for:

HomeWeaver ... no ... DREAMSITE!

On the other hand, I don't see how wysiwyg could be programmed to not alter code ... unless it would only alter the code you're inputting via wysiwyg. (Hmmmm.)

Macromedia and Allaire ... are you listening?!!!

Diane ,

Have you used VisualInterdev 6.0 you can do a preview window (where you can type text and move divs) and also another tab that can do a preview within the program with java capabilities.

And this program never messes with your code.
