What is the thing you type into google to find out which sites are linking to your site? I remember reading about it on here a long time ago but I cannot find the thread. If anyone knows, that would be great.

Use Yahoo instead of Google to find inbound links. The search is
link:www.domain.com

Yes, I would definitely use Yahoo! to check backlinks. I prefer to use this search at Yahoo!:
linkdomain:domain.com -site:domain.com
That search will ignore the on-site (internal) links.

Good tip Bill, but that search doesn't bring up the Yahoo! site explorer.
Try both.

Yahoo is good, or you can sign up to Google's webmaster tools.

Google's webmaster tools is the best one IMO because it shows you links to interior pages, your interior link structure, PR from sites linking to you, it's very good!

Google webmaster tools also shows the anchor text of inbound links.

As others have said Yahoo Explorer is better for finding backlinks as Google masks its results and only shows a sample of backlinks to keep webmasters guessing.

They still do that limited list for the public to look at, but in a validated webmastertools account they will show the site owner a lot more information.

There are some sites which provides services on that.
