Some Recommended Hosting Companies

I'm looking for some recommendations for a good hosting company. I'm looking for something very inexpensive but reliable. One that allows 301 redirects, .asp and also an email account that accepts larger attachments (like up to 10mbs would be nice). The hosting co. I am using now does not allow 301's, they are running Windows boxes - so no .asp and the email account won't accept files over a couple megs and I also seem to not recieve quite a few emails. Any suggestions?

Actually Windows boxes run asp as it is native to windows environment.

301 server redirect implementation is easier to achieve in *nix (linux/Unix/FreeBSD) than in IIS/Windows. It takes only a text file containing some directives saved as .htaccess to implement in *nix/apache servers.

First decide what server language your files will be scripted before you decide about the server OS. Normal static pages work in any OS. As I have mentioned above, it is much easier to implement 301 redirection and lots of extra frills quite easily in an Apache server than in IIS.

Most hosting companies will allow you access to control panel where you can set the size of the email to some extent. But frankly if you need to send in excess of 2 MB files, you will be better off with other means than to depend on emails.

Sorry, I said the wrong thing. They run Linux servers. Here's a quote from their FAQ section on thier site;

"Currently we use linux fileservers to host your webspace. For security and compatability reasons, we do not support Microsoft .ASP server extensions on our linux file servers at this time."

And they don't support 301 redirects. I had to call them to get the answer to that.

Anyone have any hosting company they are using and are very happy with? Network Solutions? Fat Cow? GoDaddy?

Linux running Apache should support 301 redirects right out of the box.

I have seen lots of negative reviews about godaddy, so I'd not recommend them. There are still many reliable hosting companies providing good support and services, quick search in google would definately help you.

...and just for clarity, james, you do work for one of GoDaddy's hosting competitors, correct?
