I use GoDaddy. Very competitive pricing on shared and dedicated hosting. You can choose to be hosted on a Windows or Linux box and customer service has been very good. They give you a phone number and it only takes a minute to get a real live person on the phone. Their 'hosting setup' user interface is a little clumsy but pretty easy.

I used FreeServers before GoDaddy and was pretty unhappy with them. Very slow and I had a lot of email problems. Wouldn't recommend them.

One thing to consider is your target market. If you are targeting UK traffic for instance, it is best to host the site in the UK on a UK IP block.

Same goes for Germany, France and so on.

Hampstead that is some great advice, I have website that is targeting a world wide audience, the site is a .it (Italy) and the content is in English, Italian and German.

Does it matter where it is hosted? Right now it is hosted in Italy, was thinking of hosting it in the USA.

Thanks

I too used free hosting for the past few years and had continued problems. I ended up on a free host which changed into a paid host and it's been running great since. It's serverheaven dot NET and their prices are insanely low. It's an affordable, quality host, for low-med sized sites. $1/yr plans up to $1/day for giant space. I use it and haven't had any recent downtime and it's fast (dual opteron server). Visit their forums ...net/forums to see for yourself and see the prices. All plans include EVERY feature and unlimited domains/sub-d's/email/ftp/cron/mysql and php/perl/etc all that stuff. - you name it. Linux/cpanel too. And no, I don't own this host but I do run 2 sites on it. Paypal only though.

(note: their homepage isn't updated yet as far as pricing goes as the new owner hasn't gotten to it as of this posting - like I said, see their forums for info)

That's insane! How the heck can they provide all that for such a low price? Thanks for the heads-up.

Their parent server is located in Denmark. There is no other information available from their site about where the server clusters are located.
