Hi Everybody, long time no see.

I'm doing some spring cleaning on a site, and I was wondering if someone could tell me the best way to delete old pages. I used to be able to log in using my ftp through the browser, and just delete the files. But now, when I try that method, the file only show's the pages and images in hyperlink format, preventing me from deleting the file.

I use dreamweaver mx 04 and was wondering if it can be done there. I"m totally stumped on how to do this on Dreamweaver too.

Any help would be great.

if you have root access to your site you can delete everything, if you use dreamweaver then open up the ftp connection then download the site to your computer and delete the files then upload them again .

All, well for the record, if anyone else has this problem, In IE you click on View>>Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer.

Which is odd, since I thought that's what I already did once.

I use FileZilla, FTP Core Lite, or FTP Explorer to FTP into a site. I like that clarity of working.

You don't need root access to delete a few files or even a directory as long as it is owned by you. Most virtual server hosting plans never allow root access. I would never be comfortable with anyone having root access unless they have the wherewithal to handle the responsibility.

With that said, just use your favorite FTP client to login to your hosting account. Drill down to the directory where the files you don't like are sitting there. Select them and delete them. It is as simple as that.

You would be better off using a specifically designed FTP client than Dreamweaver. Or else login to to your control panel of your host and select the file mode whereupon you will be presented with a screen resembling a Windows Explorer. Select the files you don't want and delete them.
