Log Files and AwStats

Hey Guys

I used to use a program called Web Trends to analyze my log files but since doing a computer format have lost this.
Reading your forum there seem to be free log file analyzers out there - including AWSTATS. Although I cannot seem to get this to work.

Basically our log files and ex(then the date) eg - ex010805

They are downloaded from our own windows server.

Can anyone tell me if there is a good FREE (not trial version) log file program out there we could use to view all the relevant stats please.
Output as HTML.

Also an I doing something wrong with AWSTATS? IT mentions PERL and other things which confused me so I left.....

I like the Tucows ones because they are rated.

2. Do a Google search for "free log analyzer" (with the quote marks)

Thanks for the reply, I have tried the google search before and am offered a lot of programs. I was wondering if you guys use any - which is the best.

I think the problem is that we use non free software such as Web Trends, Urchin or Click Tracks so we don't know very much about the free analyzers. That's why the Tucows site is good - they have "cow" ratings

Actually we are used to webalizer and Awstats amongst other things when it comes to analyzing our server log files. Most *nix servers have these two software installed. True - Awstats require Perl binary as it is written in perl. But then *nix servers have Perl installed by default.

Whatever the software is, typical IIS servers are not configured by default to log many information ( presumably to conserve disk space ?) like referer information. You will have to turn them on.

Awstats will work in windows too. The problem usually occurs as these software are written for the standard Apache log format. IIS log format differs widely depending upon the log configuration. A little tweaking may be required at the server end too.
