Alexa Traffic Rank

Hello,

My website (not the one listed in my profile) has consistently increasing its traffic ranking according to the Alexa traffic ranking tool up until 2 months ago. In November I was ranked in the 450,000-500,000 range but then my rank went to 7,000,000 and then 8,000,000 and now my rank is over 10,000,000. When I check my own stats my traffic has been consistently increasing each month. I am just curious why Alexa is showing my traffic rank as so low. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Alexa stats mean very little. They have never been reliable for anything much at all.

Have you uninstalled your alexa toolbar?

the best way to improve your alexa rating is to install the toolbar and visit your site twice a day.

It works a treat!
That's how useless the alexa toolbar is.

Alexa's data is based on what's collected from their toolbar users, so if folks visiting your site do not have the toolbar installed, there's no boost to your Alexa ran from them.

Th best thing to do is get used to the fact that Alexa is not a real metric for tracking success and move away from following it or worrying about it.

Same thing with Page Rank numbers- don't sweat these either.

I agree. Alexa seems to be accurate with my site, but I've heard they weren't with a lot of other sites out there. As long as you continue to improve in terms of traffic and unique visitors I wouldn't worry about it.

There are very few metrics that should matter to anyone who is running their site as a business:

~ page views
~ unique visitors
~ visits
~ conversions if you have them

Note that Alexa rank, Page Rank and where you appear int he SERPs does not appear in the list.

I heared the announcement that alexa has changed its ranking algorithm. I am little happy with this change because my website got little improvment. see new alexa ranking for Fortune Park Hotels Ltd.

Don't worry about Alexa's rankings. They only show you in relation to how ALEXA users visit you. So, here's the deal:

They need to download and install the Alexa toolbar.

Then I'd need to be using your site to help your rankings.

Trouble is, the Alexa toolbar, being a download, only appeals to a certain segment of those online, and those folks tend not to be niche focused - they tend to just browse around, so really, the Alexa ranking numbers are NOT a metric, so don't put time into worrying about the number. wink
