What's on your monitor?

I was cleaning my desk the other day, which includes sorting thru the post-it's and junk surrounding my screen, and thought this might be a fun topic.

Right now my monitor is kinda bare for me even before cleaning off the old post-its to make room for new ones.

Ok, top to bottom,

Top:
A pic of my daughter when she was about 10 months old lugging around small magnetic reels (she spent most of one day moving a stack from one office to the other - there was no stopping her, she was def on a mission and only she knew what it was, but she was very cute )

A 3-eyed alien bobble head from a Cheerios box.

Top Front:
Big 'No Fear' american flag sticker, 1 post it and 1 card with SPFPC editor notes & commands that I don't use often enough to remember. A 'fortune' "Raise the bar a little higher than you think you can jump".

Sides:
Left: 3 post-its, 1 about a school trip next friday, 1 noting a list code for a client, 1 listing useless pgms that startup with my computer for me to remember to get off the startup list (that's been there for like 6 months)
Right: Spongebob Squarepants tag from boxers that has SBSP saluting the celing.

Bottom: Recency grid for 1999-2004 by month and handy codes for editing.

I have absolutely nothing on my work and home monitors... I spend my time seeing how much crap I can clutter on my desk instead.

Nothing. I work on a laptop.

We won't even talk about my desk...

ROFL - even clean less than about 10% of the desktop actually shows.. which is scary since it's an L desk!

I have one of those shelves that sits on top of the monitor. It is a great place to put my printer (HP3820) with room in front for placing stuff like my glasses, keys, and the cell phone! I have found that having the cell on top of the monitor allows for about a two second notice of when the phone is going to ring, as the monitor gets all squigy. And I have also found that when I print it is difficult to read the monitor, as it tends to bounce around a bit from the side to side motion of the printer head.

On the side I have one of those arms for holding copy. I have found that this is a great place to put your "things to do/ignore" list, as well as make notes for instant viewing.

The desk? Uggggggggh! Disaster central. I am about to move to a real office, where I can keep things orderly (yeah right) and to separate home stuff from business stuff.

Oh Now I don't feel so bad! I usually leave just enough space on my desk for the keyboard and Mouse.

Do they even make file cabinets anymore?

ya, that's where you move all the junk from your desk every once in a while to make room for more junk On your desk

Well every so often I will remove everything. I go through all the Oh I forgot about that one, see I knew it was there, I only needed that for a day or so and gee I though I took care of that one, Papers. Wipe the desk spotless and sit back in awe and think what a wonderful thing I have done.

I wish people would quit putting all this junk on my desk.

I'll have to try and use the post-it notes on my monitor system and see how many I can get on there.

I have a picture of my daughter at Christmas. Also I have an old post-it note with an ancient message. I actually keep it there because it saves me 5 seconds from looking up the phone number on my system. (Ask any bullrider* about an extra 5 seconds.)

*what a ridiculous idea!

LOL, my old monitor was buried, but this new one is still easy enough to figure out what's there...

Let's see...

Two post it notes (there are 11 stuck to the hutch around it) one of which has an email address and phone number for someone named "Rob." (I don't remember a Rob...) The other has the name of a CFO for a local company and a reminder to setup a lunch meeting.

On the right hand side is an "AlltheWeb" document holder and rearview mirror attachment. (For all those folks who sneak up on my in my 10x10 home office...) It has an "Ah-ha.com" wierdo twisty keychain hanging from it.

On top of the monitor is a pewter rat given to me by the fellow who taught me to build web pages and gave me my nickname "thejenn." There's usually also a yellow matchbox Olds Cutlass Supreme that my brother gave me (he had a restored one) but it's on the hutch right now 'cause I was dusting.

The hutch also holds the printer, monitor, Dilbert Desk calendar, stuffed "Grommit" and Penguin, (Wallace and Shaun the Sheep got lost in a tragic cubical war) and my Toy Story Edition Mr. Potato Head.

My monitor is clean as a whistle - my desk is hard to find under all the crapola. I have post-it notes all over the wall, the desk, side of the desk and my calender is on the ceiling. I have to lean back in my chair to look up to read the calender. On the opposite wall is a dart board with a picture of, hmmm.... can't really say his name but his initials are B.M., some of you know him as B.K. :D I have some degrees in frames on the other wall and a certificate for 5% of company stock in a company that ain't worth a nickle.98...and then there's the windows - the curtains are basically made out of more post-it notes

I have a clean monitor - it's my baby - ***don't touch the monitor*** is the relex reaction all loudly encounter as they extend their pokey fingers near it. (It's a flat screen LCD and folks just love to touch!) It has a solitary piece of paper sticky taped to it with the numbers of 2 hospitals that are no longer needed. My hutch has bits of paper dangling from it in all directions.. mostly to remind me that I have children
The clutter on my actual desk is beyond description and I cannot find anything anymore! My altavista squeeze ball, the spare keys and the confiscated dragonball thingo reside up above along with around 100 + Client images CDs.

My monitor top has...

• small bottle with a rolled up one million dollar bill (wish it was real)
• miniature game boxes of Sorry and Monopoly each containing 2 pieces of chewing gum
• scale model of a McLaren F1 (1:19 scale I think)
• globe paper weight from Motorola that says “10X Reduction in Time” propaganda. Probably should also say “10X Reduction in the work force” Pretty good company to work for if you can stay employed there and make the right friends.
• ...almost forgot... The layer of dust that collects on top is also present until it gets a vacuuming.
