When a forum with such a place in the history of the study of search engines and online marketing like this slips into oblivion it is a disgrace.

The owners and moderators should get out here and get working - welcoming new members, encouraging lurkers to join and participate, getting into the threads and posting, asking questions, generally encouraging more participation.

There are a few good people left - and they know who they are - but they need help.

but they are welcomimg people and posting and their comments are always constructive

maybe the forum needs some updating, added components such as blogs and profiles.

take a look at what they do at small business brief

the moderators write blogs and articles, they have newsletters and rss feeds, they also have podcasts and video

I just did my own posting circus just to get some activity going

the information here is still the best

Good post mj1256

If you've seen Gladiator and seen the Coliseum as it is today you'll know what I mean

I know what you mean Phil, I love this forum, I effectively grew up here but I have felt it slipping, it just doesn't feel... up to date?

I understand that people work here voluntary but there's no major discussions about what's to come, has anybody actually had a look at how search engines are handling images? it's amazing and scary all at the same time

time for this forum to evolve? I think so...

There was talk some time ago about updating the site. I was invited to express my views - and I did - but it went off the boil with the departure of Bill Dalton.

A gentle kick up the mods can get things going again. Maybe a few new insiders and mods may help.

...oh, my head hurts... sad

Folks, it's a bit like trying to herd cats. Sure, it can probably be done, but it takes a long time to make progress...

Though most users wouldn't know this, we've been trying to get things moving for a while now - things happen and here we are. Everyone is busy, etc., etc., etc.

For my own part, I'm almost done writing my blog book, so with the draft off to the publisher later this week, I may be able to invest a bit more time.

Great feedback to see, though, gang.

Thanks.

Duane

phil, sorry man. sad You know the deal and your thoughts are not falling on deaf ears (not mine, at least).

Philh, I understand your suffering but look at me, for instance. I've been in here since '99 and have nothing but my craftiness to show for it.

Bunch of professionals in this forum, always have been. But I get the idea that you're starting to think everybody around this forum is an elitist or somehow arrogant or incompetent.

Maybe they're just bad promoters. Perhaps. Maybe you and me should shake things up in the Google forum and tell everybody how to out-think, out-smart and "stealth" their way into top global positioning in five days. That'd be on 1,000 blogs in ten minutes, word-for-word.

I'm way too busy to Mod, so I sincerely respect those who take time to do so on a regular basis. It's harder than keeping a daily, personal log.

So what do you think it takes to get this SEO forum back on top? Tell you what I'll do: I'll publish the encrypted blueprints for making a tactical nuclear weapon in this forum tommorrow...And all it takes to decrypt it is Google's algorythm. What'd ya say? Want to run with that for a promotional device?

how about a free SEO marketer pin up calendar

or

he's hot, she's hot rating system

or the ever popular "karma" feature

or a singles dating feature for seo marketers

or a digg style ratings feature for posts

I love the source code on the nuclear device. It looks like a mousetrap I tried to build twenty years ago. Force fields are beyond my venue, for now, since I cannot understand the simple electromagnetism in these computers, for starters.

ok then, ideas...ideas to improve the forum...

I dunno what work best with this forum so pick and choose from what you want wink

A 'newsletter' from this forum which contains the top 5 threads from this week/month

Personalise things a little with...a cheeky customisable message and or avatars?

Maybe a rep thing like DP, it makes you feel good when you get proper praise for helping people and encourages people to be more helpful

Some of the mods could kick start some threads related to the SE's new products, changes to bits and bobs and the like

Whos got more?

Perhaps the forum could do with a bit of a face lift! A little botox here, a little lipo there wink

Posted By: mj1256 ()

a face lift could cost money. I have a social networking platform which I could donate if we can find a revenue model to compensate me, or at least cover the monthly hosting costs. We could easily customize it to suit the needs of this forum. These days there is a lot more to community than just a forum and I think people are looking for more interaction. I have some ideas if the owners are willing to build a new business model out of this, (something other than google ads). Pm me if you would like to talk about it so I don't encroach on shameless self promotion.
