:D
First I just wanted to say thanks. I am a "newbie" I found this website SEO Forum...great site I might add. Has helped me a lot, My thing is the "lingo" half of the time I have no Idea what they are talking about, I'm tried to use Google webmaster tools to use the site wizard..I did what they said but apparently I'm not doing it right? I'm just trying to do this myself and getting no where, correction I've gotten a lot done with the help of SEO Forums, but I just hate to keep bugging people who are busy helping people who know what they are trying to tell them to do. I guess I just need a little hand holding, I'm trying to get my web site optomized for the web crawler I hear so much about.

rkn - let me share something that I did when I first joined this site.
I thought of it like a class I was taking and set aside at least 1 hr every day and came here and read and read and read some more - taking notes and such as I went.
The site has a wealth of wonderful information, you just need to make it a priority to access it.
And as for asking questions, ask away.... but try to search the site first as often times the question/answer is already here
Some times it may take awhile to get a response, but a response you will get....

Also don't forget to do an in depth search for things on this site using google search query: A sample search query (substitute your own query).

The site: search can be very useful sometimes.
You can diagnose certain problems with your own sites using it.

Two quick questions:
1. This is the real dump one. but Google and Yahoo keep asking me to summit a site map..I don't have one nor do I know how to build one!Can anyone help?
2. What is any-ones opinions on the company's that with optimize your website for you, they do the meta tags and HTML files that web crawler like?

You don't need to submit a site map. They will find you just as long as other sites link to your site.
Web site optimisation covers many facets. There is more to it than meta tags and links. Much more.

G1smd - you said "You don't need to submit a site map"
and rkn said "..I don't have one nor do I know how to build one!"
so even though he does not to submit one - he still should HAVE one - correct?????
I am confused lol

yes, having a html sitemap on your site is like a corridor that connects the whole site up, so if a SE has trouble going down levels on your site it just goes sitemap --> any page! very handy
submitting sitemaps is the SE's being lazy and doesn't actually help you improve much (if at all!). Also if you submit a sitemap and you change the navigation structure you can say hello to supplemental hell
It's just not worth the hassle of submitting one

xml-sitemaps [link]
sitemaps.org [link]
but, if you use a sitemap. make sure you update it everytime you add a page or change your navigation

it is not mandatory, as long as you have an incoming link from anywhere your site will get crawled.

Get a copy of Xenu LinkSleuth and run it over your site.
It can buid a basic HTML sitemap as a part of the reports that it generates.
That sitemap may need some editing, but it will give you a good start.

Optimisation is a huge subject. It goes way beyond tags and links.
A proper SEO will do many things to, and for, your site.
Get researching.

another factor you should investigate is internet product marketing and merchandising
there is more to all of this than just getting found on a search engine.
Once your product is found on a search, the visitor needs to be converted to a customer.
Also, search engine rankings should not be your whole marketing strategy. It just a piece.
