JimWorld Forums: Front Page Program Problem

OK before any of you smart alecks say it - yeah I know using FP is the first problem tongue

so please check your dream weaver and other ways of doing sites at the door lol

For some GOOFY reason my FP 2002 refuses to take the product code and hence I can not reinstall it - I have tried everything with the software and with my computer - I have new FP software coming, that should be here Friday or so.

Mean while I was forced to load my FP 2000 rolleyeys

It will not allow me to see my folders and the pages of content in the same area.

This is hard to explain in writing.

Normally you have on the far left your list of page - folder - report - tasks - navigation - etc buttons then the next "row" over you have your xyz. com title and below that all your folders ( in the same row ) - private - images - etc etc. and within those folders when you click on your pages/images are present - leaving you the right side of FP to do your actual work in, while being able to view your folders and their contents at the same time you are working to your right - gosh I hope this makes sense lol

my folders are to the left as should be - BUT my pages/content/images and such are all on the right side - which should be blank page or the specific page I am working on.

Does anyone know how to correct this? It is driving me nuts ! I am having to double back all the time.....

Hey Beth, I have never used FP so I'm going to take a stab in the dark here.

It sounds like your windows (well, display thingy's) are messed up, there may be a way to change these by a 'window' drop-down or something similar with the top tabs (file, edit, etc). If that's not it, then I really don't know sorry

dud thanks - and yep been there tried that too.....

2000 did not use to do this - not sure what is up with it - very frustrating

if you have the disk, you could do a repair install which should restore it to defaults

also, if you new version is 2003 or expressions web you are in for quite a learning curve, lots of things have changed

mj - thanks - did that too, no luck sad
I was hoping someone knew of a "trick" - as I have tried all the normal things.

ah no the new software is FP 2002 - which is what I am use to using until it "broke" and I was forced to install my old FP 2000

From the quick look I gave this link, it is all for FP 2002. I am using FP 2000 until my new FP 2002 arrives - hopefully within a few days.

However a GREAT link to keep handy in case my FP 2002 gives me issues - much appreciated smile

Hi Beth ... sorry to hear you are having trouble with FPsad:

Although for what sounds like a different situation, I also had problems with my FP. Combined with starting to work with other programmers and designers in a new job I was recently forced to get my head around DW. I know that you said to leave it at the door, but I just wanted to let you know that the 'conversion' is not as hard as it looks on the surface.

Initially I was very apprehensive as it all looked so code based and complicated for someone who was a Marketer and who had limited design experience, however in the last few months my perseverance with DW has made me a way better designer and my pages more compliant etc.

To my absolute suprise I have even got a handle on the code too ... a bit like Neo at the end of the first Matrix where he see's the images through the code :D he he

Anyway ... good luck, hope you are back and running soon.

Thanks nhd smile

I do at some time plan to learn DW - like when pigs fly ! lol No, really I do. At this point of the game having already re bought FP 2002 at a not so cheap price sad I need to resolve this issue and at my leisure learn DW

"lol lol ---- your funny." wink

Unfortunately, FP 2000 no longer has any support.

* Sigh *

I know it's hard, but it's time to let go dear. You really need to move on with your life. I mean, don't you see that FP is no good for you? That lying cheating scoundral can't even install right let alone display right!!

You need a change in your life girl!

Now DW, that's the way to go. Knows how to treat you right. Been known to be a little mysterious in some ways but that's the beauty of it. You get to DISCOVER what lies underneath that shell.

Once you go DW, you NEVER go FP! huh

completely uninstall the old version from control.panel/add remove programs

then go to programs Program Files
if there is a FP folder, delete it

also look in Program Files/ Microsoft office and delete anything frontpage you find there

you might also look in
Documents and Settingsyourlogin nameApplication DataMicrosoftFrontPage

then run a registry cleaner, i use this one
[link]

then search you registry for any frontpage references and remove them

There are pieces of frontpage all over your computer and when you uninstall it, much of it is left behind. That is why you can't get the new install to correct the problem

now install the new version

mj - thanks I did all that, but maybe just maybe I missed a step - I will go back through and do it all again, making sure I don't miss any steps - much appreciated smile

( I use ccleaner - but will download the one you use, maybe it is better )

Edited - Mj - you may have found my problem. I installed the program you use, which by the way is much better then mine ( Thank You ! ) and did all the steps again and there is one file in programs called FP, but nothing I do allows me to uninstall it. It claims it is open - which it is not.
I can not see the file through normal viewing but when I search it is there and I can see it then. Going to try some "tricks" I know to get rid of a file and see if they work.

Assuming you are buying legitimate software, Microsoft support will be able to help.

"but nothing I do allows me to uninstall it. It claims it is open - which it is not. "

reboot and try again?

thats the MS way. install a program and it will forever stay on your system

if you can find that file that won't uninstall, right click on it and make sure that read only is unchecked

Perhaps you should do what Bill EXPECTS you to do when all else fails.

Format your drive and start a fresh.

Never fails wink

>>Format your drive and start a fresh.

I do this about every 6 months!

i do it every 6 months too, it gives me the opportunity to dual boot into different flavors of linux

format my drive every 6 months.

really?
Oh wow I do it maybe 1 time a year - but I see the benefits of doing it more often. Yes this is frustrating enough I will do it soon -

Dudi - there is one stinking file that will not let go no matter what I try.

I truly appreciate everyone helping me and hanging in there with me through trial and error - Thanks smile

I do this about every 6 months!
Formatting your drive should always be a LAST resort. Doing it frequently will eventually damage the sectors on the disk, making it harder for data to stick on the surface of the disk.
it gives me the opportunity to dual boot into different flavors of linux
Perhaps you should look into installing a VM (Virtual Machine). This way you can have any/all flavors of operating systems (windows, linux etc) running, even simultaneously if you wish.
there is one stinking file that will not let go no matter what I try.
Could be a system file. Try this:
1. Go to the command prompt (click start, run, cmd, OK)
2. Then go to the path of the file (type cd [file path])
3. Once in the correct directory (of the file) type attrib -s -r filename then Enter.
4. Then del filename.

If you still can't delete this file, restart in safe mode (while puter is rebooting, press the F8 key continuously and select Safe Mode) and repeat the above steps.

If this doesn't do it, Fedex, Ups or DHL your puter to Bill and ask him to get rid of the pesky file himself - Or you could simply format wink

The best bet is Microsoft support to re-set the display.

same thin happened to me but I can't remember how I reset it.
