Can anyone say how i can upload my website for free

upload it to where? the internet? a truck?

You might want to try a Google search on "free hosting" - that'll get you started.

Be warned, though, that there are almost always restrictions with free hosting for websites.

If you have an actual website (multile pages you've built yourself, with unique content), you might be better served looking for low-cost hosting. if money's a concern, you'll have to accept the restrictions imposed by the free host - they vary from host-to-host.

If you have content, but have not built a site, there are places online which will host the site - they provide a template for you to paste your content into - they also control the ad space around the site and you usually (not always, but usually) don't get to pick an actual domain name (www.mydomainname.com. You can call it what you want, but it's on their domain - in effect, they get the benefit of your content.

...and you can pretty much forget about optimizing those free sites - just not going to happen.

I just happened to slip by this forum, so I suppose I could give you some advice:

First of all, if you want free online hosting, you're most likely going to have to have a sub-domain (ex: yourwebsite.50megs.com).

Other than that, you can check these sites for lists of free web hosting sites and see which one has the best advantages:

www.free-webhosts.com

www.thefreesite.com/Free_Web_Space

www.100best-free-web-space.com

Also, if you do not have a website, but you do have content to put on it, I would not recommend pasting it onto an online template. Look for a free website building template, such as Ewisoft (which I use), or BlueVoda. With a website builder, all you have to do is download it, and you can work on your website offline. Website building programs also tend to have many more features than online building. Then after you finish, you can just find a free web hosting site from the links above, and you have a website up at no cost to you!

Hi, a little late to the thread but just incase you are lurking and have not found a solution - or someone else has the same question...

I apparently read the question a bit differently, while you certainly need a Where to upload your site to (as in hosting as already covered) the How part is a bit different.

You need to FTP (File Transfer Protocol). There are several programs on the web such as CuteFTP and WSFTP that all work very well. A quick search will give you probably to many options of FTP software to download and install for free or more robust versions for cost.

If you are using a Windows computer with Internet Explorer (IE) than you already have a functional basic FTP already installed. From the Help option up in the top left corner choose Contents and Index, Choose the Index tab, type FTP and select Accessing Directly. That will walk you through FTP with IE. It's free

Once you FTP in you can open windows on your computer and drag and drop files to FTP back and forth.

crash, IE would not work for me. If it didn't work for me, there's a chance it won't work for others either. I followed the instructions that MSIE gave for using IE for FTP purposes.

I do concur with crash's reading of this question - it would be good if the original poster could enlighten us to their requirements?

Hm, I've used IE on several different computers - WSFTP is my choice but sometimes it's not an option, especially on someone elses computer when it's not already installed. Quick and dirty - but gets the job done. Drag & Drop is nice too.

All I do is type below into the address bar:

ftp://myusername@mydomain.com

then wait for the login screen which should popup with the user name already entered and a space for the password

or you can just type

f*tp://mydomain.com [remove the *]

and enter the user and password when the empty popup appears


I would imagine that certain settings would disrupt this, such as firewalls and blocked popups, but other than that I can't imagine what would make it not work.

I didn't mention that many html editor programs have FTP capabilities, including the free ones I've tested out.

I don't know why it didn't work either. I tried it, entered “f tp://www.somedomain.com”, entered my user name and password, but nothing happened. MSIE just churned and churned but never loaded anything into view.

crash, FYI about MSIE and FTP issue:
It seems that trace route hops are timing out and that could very well be contributing to the problems with MSIE acting as an FTP agent causing a hang-up. There's a problem of connectivity between me and my ISP that seems to be affecting all of my FTP activity. So basically, this problem is likely only unique to me. Others probably won't have this problem.

f*tp://username@yoursite.com

It will popup window to ask your password

or

f*tp://username:password@yoursite.com

Massive has the same question as xboy747 original post!!!

Massive thinks he/she means if you have purchased a domain name ie xxxxxx.com the ISP only allows you to upload through their net work broadband or free dial up. Some ISP charge a small sum a month to up load using other broardband providers ie Freeola ISP charges �3-�4 a month to use a VIP connection. So Massive is looking for an ISP that allows free uploads using any network..... is there such a thing? *goes to google for the answer but to no avail boohoo*
