Google Analytics Discussion Thread

I created a sticky thread at the top of this forum with resources for using Google Analytics.

I'll add a link to it pointing to this thread for questions and discussions. There is a lot of data in any Web analytics program so there is a lot to learn. We can learn it faster by sharing here.

Web analytics is very new so don't be afraid to ask any questions you may have and please do contribute any answers, links to answers in Google help or the Google blog, and information you may have even if you don't know the total answer.

Has anyone else noticed that the site overlay defaults to the page you enter including the tracking code? In other words, you don't see all of the traffic and clicks for the base page. Anyone know of a way to do that instead?

Although it is useful to know what percentage bounce from each specific keyword phrase, that also means there could be thousands of variations for that page and no simple way I've found yet to see how they're performing collectively.

Yes, it always takes you to the base page; however, you can type in any other page on your site too. What I meant is that it sees these as three different pages:

www.homepage.com
www.homepage.com?source=google&kw=blue+widget
www.homepage.com?source=google&kw=blue+widgets
www.homepage.com?source=overture&kw=blue+widgets

Follow what I mean? Although it could be useful to see if visitors using plural versus singular versions of a keyword, different keyword phrases, or coming from different sources click differently it would also be nice to see what all the visitors to that page do collectively.

Note that advertisers new to using analytics would probably not have tracking codes for Google because Google Analytics handles those for you. I have tracking codes on Google ads for other Web Analytics programs.

I wonder if using Google's tracking code causes this to operate differently?

I'm presuming your using the adwords tracking stuff and the foreign tracker (or whatever it's called) too, have only just started using this, so pretty clueless about it.

Yeah, I understand what you mean, I'm thinking the only way is to manually add up the figures, coz there's not really a way to cross reference two different pages off the top of my head, let alone 3 I don't think the tracking code would conflict with analytics since adwords and analytics kinda work hand-in-hand in a loose kinda way

Google Analytics does not provide all of the usual data for Yahoo stores sites. Most important to me it did not track revenue from PPC sources - not even Adwords.

I've located and had a client implement a third party connector to get Google Analytics for Yahoo Stores working. As soon as it was installed we had PPC tracking including revenue figures.

It also provides tools that can be used to increase sales. For most sites the cost will be under $50 and easily pay for itself. Definitely worth checking out.

I'm now doing advertising for about half a dozen separate Yahoo stores. Most are using the Monitus connector and it works consistently in all of them. Monitus has a new lower price of $29 per month for low traffic stores.

Just noticed that the Google Analytics Product Performance section shows separate transactions for multiple purchases of the same item on the same order while the Commerce Tracking transaction list correctly shows them on the same order.

Not sure if that is a configuration issue in that one account or some other issue with GA. I have seen multiple quantities under one transaction in the Product Performance section in other accounts so GA does usually show them together.
