Who is considered the best SEO in the world?

Well, perhaps the board cannot agree on this one but in every field there are always a few people considered (by most) to be at the top. So who are they in the SEO profession?

Most likely not the ones that shout the loudest or have the most staff

The best are the ones who deliver consistently high ROI to his/her/their client base..and helps the client to grow effectively..

this is the only real measuring stick that has any real value....tpp placement without conversion is useless...

sure - consistency of care is a huge factor.

Assumably part of that would be their own findability on the web.

Unlike ad gaincies who use splash screens and no keywords etc - SOE firms would, I'd imagine come up high on multiple search engines, have excellent PR and their clients would exhibit the same!

not true...
some SEO firms don't want to be found in the SERPs...they prefer to market themselves through other channels..sounds counterintuitive...but if some SEO firm is found in the top 5 for "SEO" or "Search Engine Optimization" and they get a flood of calls (from competitors, and potential clients..) they may not want to handle these types of calls and potential volume..
SEO is a consultive science..not a shopping section at wal-mart...
SEO is a one-on-one type specialized working relationship...
I have never once been asked ..."how are my listings?"...I only have to show potential clients my successes with my clients...

I have always found this "where is your SEO firm listed?"...nonsense..and a complete waste of my potential and current clents time and money...

philh, I can quite see your point. Considering what I have done with my sites, I might even fit into that category.

seo tester, I thought so when I saw how well his site ranked. Then I looked at his client list. Perhaps he is too busy getting himself on top that he doesn't have enough time for his clients and their keywords. Perhaps, dcaff03 is right on this point.

dcaff is correct - it means little about the SEO's site - more important is happy clients.

His site ranking cerainly speaks to his capabilities. I agree, a great SEO may be no where to be found in SEs. My company does SEO work for very large companies, usually as part of a larger design or usability project. Those clients don't look for vendors through search engines, so I don't waste my time and money competing for those listings. I'm sure many of "the best" don't either.

As for seo-guy, I have some sites that compete against some of his sites. I know the market. I know the profit margins and I know what it takes to get top ranking, and he does very well. Also, he does it without most of the rediculous spammy crap many of the other competitors use. Thus, my respect for his work.

Maybe Google has your answer here.

But seriously. Michelangelo is considered to be one of the best sculptors ever. I bet there were a few in his time that were better, but it was Michelangelo that got the Vatican commissions for work.

I am happy if my clients think that I am the Best SEO in the World! That's the vote that truly counts.

Yes - you are exactly right

It's number 1 and 2 now, and syndicated/mirrored copies populate several other spots in that very short (less than 20 results) SERP.

I guess it must pay to advertise on this board.
