Keyword Density and Spamming

Does anyone know what percent keyword density would be considered spamming by Google and Yahoo Bots. I know you should have at least 4 to 7 percent but I have seen some sites with over 30 percent and still place well, but not for very competitive keywords.

Also, would it make a difference in which spamming would be considered if your keywords are very close to eachother or if they are spread out over the page.

I cannot really quote you a specific percentage. A good keyword density percentage for one phrase might be way too high for another phrase.

If you're optimizing for one particular keyword phrase (one per page is recommended), then do a search at Google for that phrase and analyze the top-ranking pages and see what the average keyword density is--and make your page just a little bit higher.

You see, for one phrase 3 percent might be acceptable. But, for another phrase, 6 percent might be okay--which would be way too high (double) what it should be for that 3 percent phrase.

Google is always working on algorithms for identifying genuine content. Instead of trying to fool them, I simply offer real content, text, links and lots of it. And, lo and behold, I do fairly well on Google.
