I have been reading a lot about SEO and was wondering if there is a way to get list of keywords for specific topic. For example if I think a person is looking for "vinyl fence", how do I know for sure that that is a viable choice...? :eek

The first step in building sites, SEO, and PPC is keyword research. There are subscription services such as Wordtracker, programs such as Ad Word Analyzer, and free online tools such as the Overture suggestion tool.

One thing about the Overture suggestion tool. It rearranges keyword phrases into alphabetical order. If you want to use standard match you'll want to put them back in the order they would normally be in.

Other PPC engines have their own suggestion tools, also free. There is a Google Adwords Keyword Tool and there are many others.

The Good Keywords Web page has links to some others. More can be found by searching for keyword suggestion tools in any search engine.

I use an inexpensive program called Ad Word Analyzer which gives not only the numbers from Overture but also how many advertisers are bidding on each keyword at Google and Overture and how many web sites are returned.

The program also saves all keywords or just the ones you select for easy copy/paste. There is a link from the Web site in my profile to more information on that program. I use it nearly every day.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your responses... My moto is becoming The Proof is in the Placement...

Question... I have noticed that some people have a double header... in other words they have a header with meta tags for that specific page and then have another set of meta tags from their index page... WHY?

I'm sorry I don't understand your question. Are you talking about what is physically visible on the web page or what is in the source html?

If you mean why do some sites use different meta tags on different pages, I highly recommend having meta tags specific to each page and not just copying what is on the index page to other pages.

No in the html code this one site we compete with in our business has one set of meta tags for the specific page and another one right underneath it that is the exact mata tags as their index page... Weired but their placement is higher than ours... Thanks for getting back to me.

That question is outside my limited knowledge of SEO. I do not know what the search engines might do with more than one set of meta tags.

I suspect that might be a design error; however, I am not an SEO by trade or expertise. Hopefully someone who IS an SEO expert will happen by and provide an answer.

I answered your original question because the keyword research aspect of SEO overlaps with my specialty (PPC).
