Is there a difference between Trusted Feeds and RSS Feeds? If yes, then where does the difference lie?
Also, how helpful are these feeds from the SEO / SEM point of view? Are they a good source of traffic? Do they help improve rankings?

I heard that Google doesn't support RSS Feeds - is that true? If so, then for how long would it keep ignoring this emerging trend in SEM?

For sites that couldn't get indexed by search engines, XML trusted feeds was an option which would list them with search engines - these websites usually had to pay per click, the cost being lower than Overture and Google Adwords.

I believe its only still possible with Overture SiteMatch (not sure).

RSS Feeds on the other hand, is a feed format for distributing news and content to various interested sources quickly. RSS feeds are read by feed readers. Webfeeds like RSS helps syndicate and aggregate content easily. From a web user point of view, feed readers allows them to keep track of the latest news or content site they are subscribed to.

RSS was typically a tool for news sites and journalists but is being widely used by websites that have a lot of content and regularly update their sites.

Webfeeds are a way of directly reaching the interested audience.

Google does read webfeeds. Google Alerts allows web users to have the latest content or news delivered to their email for their selected keywords. You can't however, submit your feeds to Google like you can't yet submit blogs.
