Warning - PageJackers at Work!

Not that I can probably do much about this but it appears that an SEO company in HongKong has pagejacked my old home page, and submitted it with a re-direct to their own site. Look at the first result on the SERPs which goes to clixplus. This is an obvious attempt at passing off, code theft and TradeMark infringement, but short of going to HongKong and taking legal action what should I do, and in what order?

It appears I am not the only people they have done this to, I found 3 other companies' home pages by changing the URL /index35.htm to other index numbers (as in index25.htm and index15.htm. Goodness knows how many others might have been ripped off by these people!

I would run a link checker through the site, find out how many companies they are doing this to, contact them all....judge all their reactions and take it from there....

Horrible, nasty, underhand........muppets

They're pretty aggressive about keyword stuffing too. I don't think the search engine engineers will be too impressed by this company if it is reported.

when it is reported.....

maybe they hang out here, soon tell..

wow....check this...all redirects including SEW !! http://www.clixplus.com/clixplus-2/11/index1.htm

One for janet!! http://www.clixplus.com/clixplus-2/8/index47.htm

Run a link checker like XENU at clixplus.....sit back and watch your site come up.......it almost certainly will

Well, at least I'm in good company! Just came back to ask how you check for out-going links - I'll download the software and have a look.

I've got a feeling these guys may have a gone a spam too far!

Unbelievable! Can you believe the hide of these people? Where do we stand on this issue? Is this type of thing technically legal given copyright issues?

Posted On: 2001-May-27 10:22

Well, this has got to be the biggest code heist in Internet history! Who isn't in there - banks, newspapers, all the leading SEO sites, forums, casinos - and Xenu is still running.

Did they honestly think that they can get away with this?

I particularly like http://www.clixplus.com/clixplus-2/3/index52.htm

The add URL page from Google!

This is the worst case of doorway page spamming I have seen in ages. If you type in a link search on AllTheWeb (link:clixplus.com) you'll see they have at least 72 doorways submitted, all looking exactly the same but with different tags and bloated comment tags. This doesn't include all those "stolen" index pages from their competitors!

A similar search on AltaVista suggests they are a subsid of I-Force Marketing in Hong Kong. I suggest we report them to as many engines as possible. What do you think?

Posted By: MakeMeTop ()
Posted On: 2001-May-27 10:38

I have already reported this to Fast and Google - and I do not report sites for page spam normally.

But this goes way beyond mere spamming - this is code theft and spam on a grand scale. The sooner these people are expunged from our industry the better. If they do this sort of thing for their own site - what do they do for a client's (and what about their client's competitors' code)?

I think that if anyone else is in there without permission they should report them to the SEs and directories. Their spamming doorways probably won't work too well (but still report them) - their code theft might!

This has been going on for some time, because I have a page on my site that lists incoming links and Clixplus is halfway down that list. Just who HAVEN'T they "code raped"?

I have sent an email to Google. Someone want to let Yahoo know?

FYI, I've also sent messages to contacts with the major crawlers about this web site, so hopefully you all see some action shortly. I've referred them to this URL. To help them, you may want to continue posting examples of content that's been stolen.

Does this kind of crap ever work? What a bunch of scumbags.

I'm glad you guys are taking steps to report them. I wonder if we should email them to let them know they're about to be banned from every major engine...

Nah.

Well done highman - and you are right, the list is endless. Thanks very much for the tip on XENU as well - without that I would have had no idea that this case was as bad as it was.

Would it have worked Kalei? I like to think not - but in time, who knows! Thanks to Danny too, I think the engines are bound to pay some attention

I just sent the following email to support@namesecure.com -- the technical contact for the clixplus domain name:

namesecure.com is the technical contact for clixplus.com. I think you should be warned that they are pagejacking pages from all over. Please read the following thread:

http://searchengineforums.com/Forum29/HTML/000604.html

They have copied pages and images from google (the add url page), with the resulting page redirecting to their main site. They have copied pages from Internet World redirecting to their site. They have copied pages from hundreds of COPYRIGHTED sites (all as URLs like http://www.clixplus.com/clixplus-2/8/index47.htm ) redirecting to their site.

I'm cc:ing internet.com and google.com with this message. I hope you'll be proactive in seeing that clixplus.com removes all copyrighted pages.

------------------
Who knows -- maybe this'll have a good effect. If nothing else, I also cc'd news@internet.com (along with the copyright email) so maybe it'll get them lots and lots of REALLY bad publicity!

Hmmph...just try and steal copyrighted stuff when I'm around. Grrr...really gets me seething.

MakeMeTop - no problem, glad to help.....
boy are these guys going to have a BAD day, and so they should.
It looks like they are poss. using a script running from coppernic to copy pages getting high rankings across the engines, I would guess this is running on auto and just spilling all the pages out!

Highman or Makemetop - can you please give me the URL for Xenu and explain in a para what it does? Sounds like a very useful tool, thanks
