I am not able to find a good domain name and I may have to resort to a 4 word domain name.. Is this spamming or bad in any way ?

Never forget Quadrille's Oft-Quoted 14th Law:

More than one hyphen is international shorthand for idiot webmaster; More than two hyphens is Galaxy-wide shorthand for "I'd be a spammer if only I knew how"

Who's counting? Not me. But it's the look of the thing; would you really spend money at my-supa-dupa-domain.info/my-supa-folda/And-another-folda/boring-file.com (fake URL!)

In my experience, there's always a better way - and the way to find out is a few friends and a few beers - but don't actually buy until 100% sober wink

frank - try this site, it has been helpful to me in the past nameboy.com

Also what Quad said wink

Really though sitting down and brain storming with others has been helpful to me in the past.

thanks folks. See in this case it would be more like a phrase - it would be similar to : cosmeticsurgeryandmakeup.com. Now if this is the line of business too and if the site offers quality content, then what ? still a bad idea ?

i have seen 3 hyphen site do well although they look a bit weird, but its not really considered spamming it depends of who you are asking.

yes and especiallly these days its becoming more of a trend to have a trendy phrase like domain name... eg:
gotomymeeting.com. now that's a four word one! wink

I don't think it's spamming, just not likely to gain much respect. there are umpteen million .info sites with get-rich-quick schemes, and they all seem to have two or three hyphens. I think most people just don't trust them.

Of course there are exceptions ... but why give yourself one more hurdle to have to climb over?

It would NOT be seen as spamming by a search engine. AS for someone finding your site on the results, it may not look that fantastic.

A good way to avoid this is ad the lietters "inc" or "co" after it without the hyphens
golfclubfactory.com taken? get
GolfClubFactoryInc.com not golf-club-factory.com

get it?

or add a co as suggested above. I have often been able to get a "good" domain name with adding a co.com

I agree hyphens are not looked upon very friendly - thanks to the shady people :sigh:

No domain is bad as long as you have good and informative content...
