Hi folks,

How do I find out if a site that publishes your anchor text link is giving you the full benefit of popularity ?
I mean is 'nofollow' tag the only thing I need to check ?
Also where do i find that or any other tag like that ? Thanks

Look in the source code.

nofollow and javascript are probably the most common ways to de-value a link, but one favored by some is to link to a an intermediate 'info' page, rather than the real page.

As these are usually info-free, the visitor doesn't follow the eventual link (if there is one), and that may also be obfuscated in some way.

so if the page has green bar PR does it tell you something ? ARe those 'good' indexible pages ? Also what are exact tag syntax to search on ?

green bar suggests that the page had page rank three or four months ago.

It says nothing about its page rank today, and nothing about whether their link has been set up to 'pass' any page rank.

Or if google values the kind of link that appears on the page. Some links (eg non-related reciprocals and paidlinks) may pass no value at all, and some links can be negative (in certain circumstances).

What i mean if a page has a green bar then for sure it does not have any restrictions such as no follow ?

Maybe - Maybe not, Now how is that for a firm answer wink

OK consider what you do know about the bar and how it works.

You know that at the time you are looking at it, it very well could have changed and you are not getting a accurate "reading".

So I would say probably yes to your question - but not a firm yes.

"What i mean if a page has a green bar then for sure it does not have any restrictions such as no follow ?"

No. No. No. No. No connection whatsoever!

A green bar is an indication of the page rank that Google gave to that page 3-4 months ago. Page rank is about the "link popularity" of that page. Nothing else.

A page may have a page rank of 9 and still use nofollow.

If you want to know about nofollow usage, either

1. check the code, or

2. use firefox and install the plug-in that shows when a link is nofollow.

For example, This Page has some nofollow links, some plain HTML. I see the nofollow links against a pink background; every one of them.

But I can only tell which links are javascript by 'mouseover' and look at the status bar - and some sites stop you doing that - so if you want to know - for sure - how a page formats its links, you need to look at the source code.

As I said several posts back wink

Frank - Quad is correct. I thought you were saying "no follow" as an example, not as a specific - sorry if I led you incorrectly.

Thanks to all. I will go ahead and look for the Firefox Plug in. Did not know about this before. Cheers!
