Google Adsense at http://www.google.com/adsense
is a new affiliate program; you can now run targeted text ads (from the Google Adwords system) on your site.

Accroding to Google, it takes about 3 days to get approved.

It appears that by starting this program, Google wants other affiliate programs such as CJ and Linkshare to go away.

Very interesting. They will very likely take some shares from CJ, Linkshare etc. for those who use affiliate programs to display more or less targeted ads separated from their content. But there is no way to promote individual products, or place highly targeted ads in/after your articles with Google Adsense, so CJ etc. definitely won't die.

The payment faq says :
"You'll receive a portion of the amount paid for clicks on AdWords ads on your website. Although we don't disclose the exact revenue share,"

Strange. Probably depends on bid prices and CTR on your site then.

Google definitely won't tell you how much they'll pay you, and there's no contract between the publishers and Google. Publishers just have to agree to "their terms".

As a publisher, you cannot choose which ads display on your site, but you have control over which urls don't display on your site. Google looks at your site to determine its content and then displays appropriate ads.

Yes, you can block up to 200 individual urls. That's all.

I got approved in less than 24 hrs. however, when I login, and click on accepting the terms, it just loops me back to the login screen.

Just a quick update: I have a site where I am now displaying the google ads. Some of these advertisers are paying up to ... a click. I'm being paid over ... a click that I deliver, so it appears that this could be great for publishers.

Wish I could just get my ad code. I'm still looping back from the terms and conditions screen to the login screen. I sent an email to google, no response of course.

I figured it out. If you go to the adsense link from within a hotmail account, it will not accept the "I accept" command. You must go to the adsense link from outside of hotmail.

Where'd you get the info on who's paying what?

Great, I guess you just need to cut/paste the url in order for the 'accept' button/page to work.

As far as who's paying what, this changes all the time. Since the ads are coming for Google Adwords, it really depends on what terms are showing up on your site and what each advertiser is willing to pay for a click to their site.

Some words are costing advertisers more than others. For example, one term may be going for ... a click while others are only going for ... a click. So, in order for you to get paid ... a click, then you have to have a site that has the appropriate content that will force Google to display ... a click ads on your site.

As far as this particular industry, I just happened to have a site that's in the same industry as where people are paying up to
... a click for Google Adwords traffic.

Thanks for the reply bhartzer.

So far on my recipes related site, I'm showing rates of ... and ... per click. Nothing to write home about but it's still early. I'll start running the ads on my computer related site soon and see what's paying in that industry

So far I've had better results by running the skyscraper ad versus running the 468x60 ads. The skyscraper puts up to 4 ads on the site and the 468x60 shows two.

It certainly is very early in this program and with more experience we will be able to evaluate it properly, but with four days under our belt we are getting a 2+% CTR at a very handsome per click compensation. We have a specialized and competitive niche -- 401k retirement plans -- where companies are paying good dollars for access. We are using the skyscraper format and only on certain targeted pages. If the trend holds, this will be a nice five figure annual income source for us.

The ads are very targeted to your pages keywords, so if you plan to go with Adsense you need to work on your sites keywords to ensure good target ads.

This adsense program is unbelievable, not sure how long these payouts will continue, but as rmeigs said, this is some great extra income. Im getting a ...% ctr and just under ... per click, which is unreal. Can't give enough props to google for this program.

Signed up yesterday afternoon at 1.30 and was approved at 9.51 last night, so that was pretty sharp. I was expecting a knock back anyway so I am chuffed as cheese just to get on the program.

CJ never did it for me, because so many of their advertisers are only interested in US and Canada so am delighted to have this new opportunity to play with.

Installed adsense yesterday on about ten pages and have gotten several click thrus already. I find it frustrating that I can´t tell which pages are bringing me the clicks though.

All I can see is an amalgamated clickthru rate and total earned (5 bucks so far - don´t laugh this is a great result for me!). Has anyone else worked out how to get a more detailed report?

e10, I agree. It would be nice to see which pages on my site are returning the best results and thoses that aren't. This would allow me to "tune" the pages to ensure proper/better ads are being displayed.

At this point, I don't believe such reports are available.
