Do you get a better Adsense payout for a site about diamonds than donuts?
I can see this as the new affiliate program. Years ago I set up some pages for cheap airline tickets just for the affiliate revenue.
That same type of thinking could lead one to set up bs pages about diamonds, rolex, whatever is expensive, just for the Adsense revenue.

It all comes down to one common denominator... the point of initial coversion is what determines if the FINAL conversion even shows up on the radar screen or NOT.
What ever your tactic for trasferring people from one place to another via planes, trains autos... or a mouse depends on how reliable the form of transportation.
So the question really is... can you build a better mouse trap than your competition?
Do so and reap the rewards... don't... and you'll dry up like a grape turned raisin.

I think quite a few people have gone this route - but I'm not entirely sure it's a good idea. I guess it really depends on the site and the amount of content. I've thought of making expansions now that I know they will have a better way of being financed, but there will still be a substantial amount of content involved.
The three concerns I have are:
1) I'm sure this wasn't really what google had in mind for adsense, and they might end up having to implement regular reviews of sites for quality if this sort of thing becomes commonplace.
2) I'm not sure if the web needs more sites that are created just for the sole purpose of affiliate programs. No offense intended on that - I've had one or two of those myself, but I think they are also starting to affect the overall quality of web content.
3) With an affiliate program, there's no harm in a site targeted just to that program -- as usually you're only being paid for referring sales or leads; if the quality of the traffic ends up being poor, there's not really anything lost for the advertiser. With AdSense, they pay differently. If conversion rates take a dive, we can be assured that some advertisers will pull out, and as publishers our income will be lowered (overall).
