I got a mail from adbites saying publishers and advertisers have to pay $79.95 to remain members, it said something about this is the result of new contextual advertising regulations.

I'm finding that a little hard to believe. rolleyeys

too funny - new contextual advertising regulations - that's a bad move. My favorite line is how they wrap it all up with this gesture -

"if you DO NOT have a banner AdBites Media will, AFTER your purchase ..design you a banner for free...yes totally at no cost to you for the banner design"

Totally at no cost, after you pay them money for your purchase. Say it again, totally at no cost, after you pay them money for your purchase. wow. sad, but as pt barnum said... link

I'm just going to let them delete my account. I use a couple other contextuals that do well for me, adbites says they will pay out your account if you don't stay with them so I'll let them do that.
I refuse to be extorted this way.

Seems like a good move, junglecat. Folks that do stuff like this need a clear message sent to them.

Wonder what they would say if asked specifically what regulations they are referring to?

I would certainly like to know specifically to WHICH regulations they are referring.

If there were any such regulations, Google and all the other ad servers would be sending similar emails to their advertisers and publishers.

    Dear Ad Bites,

I represent the internet regulations department. Please forward to me all of your affiliates and advertisers fees as required.

    This is very interesting.

adbites.com/banner.htm is still there, but it no longer says you have to pay to be a member. Now it's just a page to sell banner impressions (they've also removed the payment button from the join page. I'm guessing nobody fell for that little trick).

And even more interesting- when you click one of the payment buttons on the banner page, you go to a Paypal page that says:

This recipient is currently unable to receive money.

You know what they say; what goes around comes around.... rolleyeys
