Yahoo has introduced a program similar to Google Adsense. See the Press Release.

The program just started and is currently in Beta Testing. Apply here to be considered for the Beta Program.

Just submitted, let's see how this goes. I am serving third party ads, and the fact that they ask makes me think they'll nix me immediately...

Or maybe not. If you are already serving 3rd party ads you are familiar with the process and would be a good candidate to test the new Y product...???

I plugged the Beta YPN code into one of the sites that we already have had success with using Google AdSense.

While I realize there is a delay for site-relevant ads to appear, the code isn't even displaying public service ads.

Anybody else have a similar problem with the YPN Beta?

Actually, as far as I know there are not PSAs on YPN. They use actual advertiser ads from their larger advertisers like Vonage.

Give it some more time to get the YPN crawler to crawl your page and it should work itself out. If you're rotating ads between Adsense and YPN, then there's an issue with the YPN crawler.

Thanks for your response. You are correct.

I received a message from YPN support earlier today informing me that -- on this particular day -- the Overture engine was taking 3 to 4 hours to activate ads on new sites. Generally it's about 15 minutes. Their response was timely and accurate, which impressed me.

As to rotation, we don't rotate competing advertising code on pages. However we do use different ad providers in separate sections of some sites at first, mostly to assess the best and most valuable ad program to run permanently.

It appears that some sites will do better with YPN and others with AdSense year-round. Just depends on the site content, the providers ad market and the season in some cases.

It's a Beta. We'll see how it goes.

Oh, they do run PSAs. It's in their terms and conditions. Actually PSAs can be run without any compensation to publishers if they deem it so. Another difference is that multiple ad blocks on a single page are counted separately in YPN instead of as a single impression a la AdSense.

On PSAs:

Reserved Rights. In addition to any right not explicitly disclaimed or waived by Overture, we reserve the right to:

1. investigate you, Your Site, your owners, officers, directors, agents, contractors and employees, at any time;
2. change or discontinue the Beta Program, in whole or in part and temporarily or permanently, without notice and without liability to you or any third party; and
3. provide Ad Units that contain advertisements or links to Overture or Yahoo! services, charitable or non-profit organizations, and web search results, without including such advertisements, links or results in the basis for payment under this Agreement, even if we receive payment for them.

How many ads does Yahoo allow per page? Also it seems they are not instant statistics either. You get today’s result tomorrow but I will give them some slack as it is still in beta. Oh by the way text only ads.

Yahoo! Beta? Three max, so far as I am aware, but it's not carved in stone nor is it important at all unless your pages are as long as the Dead Sea Scrolls. It's just good sense to stay under that, for sure.

Regardless of your ad configuration vars, if the same ads are mirrored in each panel --no matter what your presentation -- a single ad is more effective than three that reiterate the same products anyway. People are literally "blind" to text ads that they have already consumed once on the same page. It's boring.

The upside is that Yahoo!'s "Targeted" advertising appears to have a very strong market. In simple terms, Yahoo!/Overture are making a move on the "direct" marketing crowd to capture funds from the traditional printed-paper media outlets and the TV network Gods...And they're asking you what, when, why and how you'd like to publish it.

It also means that they are not arrogant, yet.
