...about google adsense sites...

do all adsense sites have to be hosted online?

can they ever be just hosted locally, entirely offline on someone's computer?

I'm sure you're right and I wouldn't want to violate any adsense policy. But I've looked and looked and haven't found any mention of offline pages in either Adsense's TOS or policy page. I'm also kind of nervous of asking Google lest they conclude I'm looking for ways to undermine their policies. I just don't see offline pages specifically addressed by Google.

I understand that if a page is offline, ads can't be displayed. But what if you have just an Adsense Search box on an offline page?

Don't want to belabor the point, just a little confusing for me. Maybe I missed Google's reference to offline pages in their TOS and someone can direct me to it? Thank you.

The bottom line is it must be ONLINE to actually work.

Go ahead an drop the code on a page hosted locally and see what happens - G is not likely to hunt you down for trying...

...especially since the connection between the code on your page (offline) and their system (online) will not occur, so they wouldn't see the "call" for the ad anyway.

AND, you'd never get credit for clicks, no money, etc. - bottom line is, I think, they don't mention it because it's not a violation of anything other than, maybe, physics... wink

Yep, physically not possible.

Terms and Conditions state -

in connection with the Web site(s) that You designate and the Atom, RSS, or other feeds distributed through such Web site(s) (each such Web site or feed, a "Site"wink.

You are agreeing to terms in connection with ads being displayed on your "Site". Additionally, they do specifically address software also within the program policies -

No Google ad, search box, or referral code may be pasted into any software application.

Thanks for your patience with me. That seems much clearer.

However, just to clarify, the "site" would just not be hosted online but the computer would have online access i.e. it wouldn't be disconnected from the internet. So I assume the search box code would work since the search results would be displayed on the suceeding online page...unless I don't know something about how Google's tracking system works.

But, again, your posts make it much clearer.
