I'm not sure if this is the best place for this, but I have just received a comment from a site visitor that I have a spelling error. They told me the word, but not the page the error is on. My site has over 600 web pages, now other then contacting the person and acting very stupid. Is there such a program or web based application that can check multiple pages?
What I need is either a program I can download that will go through a whole directory of files and/or a web application that will start with the main page and go through all of the links on the same domain, like Xenu.

you could try looking for the typo on google. I also see nothing wrong at all with e-mailing this person and thanking them for their most useful input and asking them if they recall the page that had the error.

I agree with excell. I have sent a number of e-mails to webmasters or site owners informing them of problems, misspellings, incorrect info, bad links, and the like, and I think all have responded to thank me for the heads up.
And virus, correct spelling etc. is very important as it is a reflection upon the site owner's attention to detail. A web site is often the first impression that a potential client/customer will have of a business. In short image is everything, and errors, problems etc. reflect on the site owner, as well as the webaroo.
Also you might want to follow your own advice and run all your posts through a spell and grammar checker before you actually post them. A few typos here and there are one thing, but dude, your posts are like reading pigeon english, which detracts from what you have to say.

"pigeon english" (Hux)
Very good point! I should practice what I preach. I've actually been trying to type everything in Word and then pasting it in the boxes here, but I type faster then I think I'm afraid
My websites I do believe are much better. However my WebCalc site currently has over 600 pages. I try to double-check everything, but with that many pages I'm sure there are errors. That’s why this email sent me a wakeup call that there should be a way for me to check multiple pages. I sometimes use 1st Page, and that does live spell checking, but it would take a long time to go through 600 files and probably 900 pages of text.
Probably a better long term solution would be some device that would sound a siren or squirt me with water when I make a typo ;-)
Although now that’s its been determined that I can’t spell, what can I do about it in the context of not adding more errors, and going back to fix what I’ve already screwed up?

I use NoteTab for all of my coding. It has great search/replace functions. One that I like is a directory search and replace. It will go through an entire directory and find every instance of a search string, with automatic or confirmed replace. Free version is great, and paid version is better. I got the paid version just to thank whomever made it.

Something I know from having been a magazine editor and had this happen hundreds of times; You can read, and reread things counteless times and not see an error. Someone else can walk by, and upside down with a passing glance, they will catch a mistake. It is always a good idea to have two or more people proofread your copy before you go live, or soon thereafter.

I use stones webwriter for my coding. A great program in my opinion that lets you learn how to code because it isn't a wysiwyg type of coder. It is a glorified notepad program I guess. Its from denmark, make sure you get the english version.
Anyway it has an extended replace feature where it will replace EVERY occurance of "word or phrase 1" with "word or phrase 2" in the directory that you tell it to check.
Not only does it come in handy finding that typo but if you have a menu or something that you have hard coded into the html you can quickly replace it. A task on 600 pages that would take you very long by hand.
