I thought I would share this. I recently had to enlarge some .jpgs, but found, of course, that enlarging resulted in degraded-looking images since 72 dpi doesn't leave much image info to enlarge with. This method gives a good result in Photoshop: (1) Take a screenshot of the .jpg (Alt +Print Scrn). (2) Open a new PS file specifying 300 dpi and paste in the image. The resulting image will be smaller than the original. (3) Enlarge the image: • Image/Image Size • Specify 72 dpi (this will cause the pixel dimensions to be less) • Specify larger pixel settings If you play with this, your images should come out just fine.

Good tip Diane. I've also found that if you convert your jpg to a tif and then resize, you'll get better results. Once you have the dimensions you want, simply convert the tif back to a jpg. Tifs seem to be more malleable.

You can do the same in Fireworks 3.0:Copy the image, in any form. > Hit New (Ctrl + n) and paste the image. > Go to Modify // Image Size, then set the dpi to 150-300...thus enlarging the image with little to no distortion.

I have also worked with tifs, but just a bit, and have gotten good results. Will keep that one in mind. This is great! Let's keep posting these tips for our members and for each other. It's always good, when you're going full steam and run into an impasse, to have these tips to refer to.

I always try to keep a high res Tiff of any file I start tweaking. It's safe to asume that everytime you resave a JPEG you lose img quality.
