I've been getting some pretty dismal traffic to my site (live for two months and only 2,000 impressions per day). Has anyone seen any data or had any experience on the effect of a site re-design on traffic, stickiness, etc.?

    Thanks.

It all depends on what your site looks like now and what it "could" look like.

Have you tried posting in this forum and asking for a site review? You'll get a good idea about whether or not your site is "professional" and what it needs to help the stickiness of your site.

Adding fresh, useful content is always a good way of drawing more people, more regularly. Look at Jakob Nielsen's Alertbox - it is certainly the plainest of sites but because of the invaluable information offered, many people (at least in my field) make a point of going and reading his website on a regular basis. As a result, I believe he is one of the most highly respected (and highly paid) usability experts in the field.

Good design can help to establish credibility and direct your customer to the most pertinant information. Basically, if done well, it should increase your browser to buyer conversion rate. But, I do not believe that it will do much to drive more traffic to your site.
