I'm not a graphics pro so I need a little help! I want to rehash my page and I'm trying to figure out a new logo & look. Here's one of my ideas:
http://www.thefarmzone.com/testsite/testlogo.htm

I'd like some help with this! Change the colours? Do something else? Any ideas??

Hey bro,

I'll hook you up.
Who are you tring to appeal to? What kind of an interface are you trying to use? Who is your market?

Later

Alex

Thanks xelA. Sorry.. shouldv'e answered those questions. I haven't designed the interface yet, actually I'm thinking of starting with the logo to try to pick colours etc. I'd like it to look professional but user friendly. Target age range varies depending on the section of the site that they navigate to. Anywhere from 12/13 - 40, 45 and up.

Sinoed, Alex is right.

In choosing colors and an overall theme/look and feel for a site, both the topic and your target market are of utmost importance.

For instance, black backgrounds and haunting music might be terrific for certain kinds of sites ... but not for a bank site.

(Alex, did you get my email?)

No Diane can you resend it to me at my work account please?

Sinoed, i would like to see your site with alot of white in it and the nav wrap around the top and left sides of the screen.

I think it would be cool to do the top like a field with a sky type of a thing with a red "farm house" on the top left corner that functions as a home button. The whole thing could look quite professional and "cute" - i hate that word.

Anyway, I can help you with the graphics if you want.

later

Alex

Thats sounds good. Here are my thoughts, I'd like background of the site possibly in a Ghost white (#F8F8FF), with the nav bar in and wrap in either a shade of blue, possibly navy? (#000080) or a forest green (#228B22).

DianeV you are absolutely right. Basically the site as it is now was just to see if I could do it. I actually wrote an article on colour and their associations with emotions, which is why I'm plotting a rehaul. The problem that I'm having trying to pick colours is that the target audience is decidedly split. On one hand I have older people interested in the products and software that I sell and the other hand is the young people interested in the opportunities for 4H/FFA. Essentially what I'd like to do is to choose a good colour for the older audience (hey they buy stuff! ) but not scare away younger people. For the young people visiting the 4H/FFA section I'd like to design something similar to the Sesame Street sight http://www.muppetworld.com . Of course this is all future plans.. but you know what I mean. As for the nav bar I'm a looking at a menu system similar to the one at http://www.projectseven.com/dreamweaver/flyout/index.html

for main categories and headings and subpages similar to the ones at
http://www.infopop.com/InfoPop-OTweb/index.html

for speciality areas etc. Sorry.. I should've posted all of this, it might have helped a little but I never even thought till xelA responded.. Its sort of an ambitious undertaking but I figure with enough patience and given enough frustrating hours I can figure it all out. What do you think?

Hiya,

I'm not as experienced by half as Alex & Diane, but I'll offer my impression.

Your initial logo looks like the Farm Zone in outer space. I guess it's the blue and the quasar-like object behind it. This logo just doesn't say farm to me. But maybe that's just me. I would think more natural colors like brown, yellow, orange, green. If you want to be high-tech farm, maybe a computer monitor with the words Farm Zone in it, sitting on a pile of hay. I would think you could get a lot of mileage out of superimposing rustic, farmy images with techie things, like a mouse (computer mouse) in a barn, or such. And the font should somehow be the right blend of business-like (for the adults), fun (for the younger set) and not too slick (or it won't fit with the farm theme).

These are just my thoughts, and they're based on stereotypes, I'm sure, but I don't think it's that far off.

BTW, what's 4H/FFA? Like the 4H club?

Another BTW: that muppetworld.com site is slick, but anything approaching that is an expensive project I believe - it's all Flash and a lot of art chops are used. I'm sure it took a team quite a bit of time to make that site.

Good luck!

Colin

Sinoed,

I just wanted to say that I liked Ctaber's ideas. Every idea evolves. Get a starting point and play.....

I have had logos and sites completely change feel and my predetermined sketches. What comes out is better than I could've planned for.

Keep going until you think you can't improve. Then it's done.

Just my two cents...

Linda

Thanks guys! I don't know exactly where to start.. but I'm going to try it out! Like I said I want to do a major overhaul of the site, so the results should be very different than what the site looks like today. I'll keep posting my stuff for input as I go..
