There's a font used in my logo and I don't know which one it is. It was done by a graphic designer who I'm no longer in touch with.

I would like to use it on the flash intro. of my site.

I've spent two hours searching through the various free font sites, but no avail.

It's the one used for the "Hot Movies" section of the logo:

Any of you geeks out there know which one it is?

If you do, you'll save me a lot of headache!

Thanx

I'm not really sure what font that is, but check out these sites and see if you can find a similar font.

http://www.fontemporium.com/orgfonts.html

I know you may have looked at these sites already but I thought I would try to give you another avenue.

Good Luck !

I ran "Hot movies" through the fonts listed in Fireworks for you and the closest I could come was a font called "Hattenschweiler". It would have to have been thinned out to be this one though. It could be something as simple as an Arial or an MS Sans Serif with some hand mods on the "S" and the "O". Just a couple of thoughts.

It looks like one of those raised/punched tape label fonts. If that's the effect you're after (the punched label), check out Chromosone from Brian Wilson at http://www.typequarry.com/ (be sure to look at the page with actual font, not the thumbnail, the thumbnail isn't great). It's not the same font as in your logo, but it's the best one I know for that effect.

If that's not the effect you were going for, however, ignore this message. wink

Claire Schaeffer - that's the one. Chromosome is the one I was looking for and wasted all those hours on! THANK YOU

Only one problem, the website you mention charges $39 for it. I can't afford that. I'm not a graphic designer; I'm only going to use it on two lines of text and will never need it again (got over a hundred other fonts on my PC). The one you download from the site you've given has the letter 'e' missing which I need!

Most of the affiliate programs I belong to only pay you 2 or 3 cents a click. It'd take me a long time to earn $40!

Anybody know where/how I can get it for free?

Thank you to everybody for their kind assistance.

This looks like it is Brian Willson's personal creation. I checked out his website which leads to the typequarry.com and 3ip.com sites. I don't think you're going to be able to get it elsewhere for free, unless it is a pirated copy - which shouldn't be discussed here. I could be wrong - he could have other sites and companies which carry his work. The email address listed on the site is brianwillson@3ip.com, you could try sending him an email. I must admit though, pretty smart to leave out letters in the demo. That said, maybe you could barter the couple of lines of text for a few impressions if you can't find it elsewhere?

OK,

Sorry to get off topic but I need to clarify something here. We accidently stumbled into something here...

quote:
I can't afford that. I'm not a graphic designer

All Graphic Designers/Graphic Artists are not rich! (I sure as hell am not). When you hire a Graphic Artist and they charge you $350 US for a tiny logo you think they would be. But heres the thing when we go to corbis.com to get that royalty free picture of a computer you wanted in your logo. That could cost us upto $150 or sometimes more. If you want the little "Hot Movies" font thats another $40.
We need to pay for this somehow. It usually comes out of the money we charge you.
Or if the graphic artist is smarter, he/she would use a normal font (Verdana) use a inner bevel with about a 6 depth and a 8 blur to achive that "stuck out" effect then they add a "drop shadow effect" and curve it to the BG and they're done.

If you can't do that yourself (buy the font for $40 or pay an artist to replicate it for you) think of a different solution for your prblem.

I'm sorry to come off sounding harsh but thinking that Graphic Artists are made of money and should give away their work for free is rediculous. Brian Wilson probably worked hard on that font and deserves every penny he makes from it. But heres the eye opener... I bet you he's not rich.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that all graphic designers are rich I'm sure not all of them are on $50,000+ a year, but I know as a fact that a couple of my friends in the field earn that kind of income.

One thing I do know is that they're paid more than writers. I'm an author and here in the UK the advance for a beginning author for his first or second book is often £1,000 ($1,500) - unless you're already well-known. That book often takes one or two years to research and write. So graphic designers are certainly not as hard up as people in my profession.

I, too, apologise for going off the subject... but I think people in computer industry don't realise how fortunate they are sometimes compared to those in other jobs. Not talking about everybody, but especially those who have enjoyed very decent salaries by working for cash-rich dot coms in the last few years.

Glad it's the right one, but yep, Brian Wilson is the typographer and if you find it for free, it's a pirated, illegal copy. And trust me, you don't want to take that money from the typographer -- guys who do small foundries (like Brian) ain't rich either. wink

On the other hand, I own the font and if you want to barter a *graphic* (I won't give away the font), drop me an email wink
