doing something against Dmox guidelines
Paying an editor is against DMOZ guidelines... that is what is wrong with it... it also goes against the very principal of DMOZ. smile

Now, is that so wrong? It hurts the overall process, and if all the editors took money, I believe dmoz would have become garbage long ago. Now, I don't think it is SO WRONG, there are a lot more and worse crimes out there (rape, murder, theft, etc), but as the ol' saying goes:
"if you can't do the time, don't do the crime"

Ok, fair enough the guidelines are against it, to be honest I wouldn't expect less, but, I think taking money would be wrong if it is to do something they wouldn't normally do, like listing a site they wouldn't normally list, or to manipulate somehow the listing in such or such category, or the title or description of such and such site, etc ... but if an editor has 50 sites in the queue and doesn't bother to review them (at the end of the day they are volunteers and not obligued to work), I think it wouldn't be unethical to offer a "tip" to that editor to "encourage" him to clear up the queue ...

I personally love cool one-guy-made hobby sites. These sites, and non-profit sites would be at a greater disadvantage then they curently are when ranking against commercial sites.

Think of it this way, if there are 2 help cancer pain sites, and 73 online pharmacy sites, all waiting to get into the same directory, a non-paid-off editor may choose the hep cancer pain sites first and review the online pharmacies last. If he was taking money from the online pharmacies (and the pharmacies have HUGE pockets) the help cancer pain sites would never get on! The editor would be too bussy with money dishing site...

Sure, make me an offer to list your site.

One of three things will happen - try to guess which one.

1. I'll take your money and run
2. Your site will get listed faster
3. A permanent note will be made that you offered a bribe, and your site will never get listed in ODP, your emails will be recorded, along with all headers.

Hey, 1 out of 3 is pretty good odds.

I couldn't say what the odds are (as I have never tryed anything of the sort). But I think your odds of succesfully bribing a voluteer are more like 1 out of 100. I say if you are going to try that, better just go to a casino (it is saffer plus you get free drinks!).
