I was checking on an ODP listing I submitted 2 months ago. I searched by keywords, URL, company name and found nothing. When I tried to resubmit, I got a notice that my site was already in the ODP. The notice listed my URL, company and keywords. If I am listed, why can't I find the listing?

the ODP search function is on-again, off-again.
When you tried to resubmit, was it to the same category you previously wanted?
Review that category & see if you can find the URL by rolling over the Titles - it's possible they changed your title tag so you didn't see it right off when you reviewed the category for it.

I did try to resubmit to the same category. It's a regional category, a tiny city in Wisconsin, and there were only three sites listed. Mine was not one of them!

ok, you know what, i'd guess that your site is just currently caught in public-side limbo.
which means that your site was accepted/published internally in the last 2 months, but due to some server upgrades & ensuing bugs in the programming, not all sites recently added/updated have appeared live on the public side yet - they are slowly going through.
Send me a PM with the URL/category & I'll double check that for you.

Or you can just check for yourself by changing the dmoz.org in the category URL to editors.dmoz.org. That is the public page of the editor's side of things -- it is currently accessible by the public (though that will most likely change in the future).

yes - that would work too. but she had no problem seeing it in the actual category - it was the dmoz broken search at issue.
in this case, the site had only just been accepted Sept. 1 - so it wouldn't normally be available to internal search for 4-7 days anyway.
here are some other general points from my PM w/ Catlady:
it doesn't really matter if you don't show up in search on DMOZ itself - it's a low producer of traffic, as many users don't search there. BUT, the downstream usage from partners such as Google (and many others) will matter a lot - and your category listing and description is what will get used there, and other SE's will use DMOZ data as they wish. So, be patient- as it may take a couple more weeks for DMOZ partners to do a "Dump" of the latest info.
it's not really necessary to resubmit your listing anymore- all that does is overwrite your initial submission - it doesn't get reviewed any faster - it's a myth of dmoz. if you're not having luck getting listed after 4 weeks, send the editor of the category an email, or go to resource-zone.com and request a status update for your submisison.

Thanks

Thats a quite general question. Two interpretations possible:
Time Submission -> Review -> Listing: Some sites are added without being submitted, some within minutes after being submitted, some wait for years and some others will never be listed. Pick a time you like, between zero and infinity.
Time till public servers upgrade: We don't know yet, technical difficulties. No ETA possible, staff is working on the problem. [At the moment a full synch would need 9 days which seems to much to the tech people, so they are investigating the issue and looking for the reason]

DOes DMOZ work as a directory listing for th emajor search engines like google, msn, yahoo,etc..?
How important is being listed at DMOZ?
Is there any other directory that is very important to be listed?
Thanks

Having a listing is dmoz means you get a link from their directory. Links from directories are good for rankings. The better your link strategy supposedly the better you would rank in google. hth dave ps If I am correct(please correct if wrong) dmoz is googles directory.

I have the same problem. I have been listed in the catagory for four weeks but I can not find it by my URL or keywords search, it just says not known. It also has not been picked up by any search engines.

The search database was updated yesterday from the new RDF file. Updates should be about weekly in future, but some will be missed. It should be rare to go more than three weeks without an update.
This is the first search update for three weeks, due to a bug the previous two times that it was supposed to happen.

Hey folks, I don't get on here as much as used to, but I was wondering if someone could check on two sites in DMOZ for me, both were submitted probably about 2 months ago, if you can, please drop me a private message, I would appreciate it greatly.
Thanks.

There is already a public forum for that sort of thing. Use that Resource to find out the answers.

I didn't mention the URL again, as it already appeared in skiguide's third post above, the fifth post in the thread.
