Hi,
a very strange thing happenned to me this morning when trying to submit one of my sites to DMOZ. I chose the appropriate category for my site and hit " add URL " button...and....SURPRISE, SURPRISE....I am told that I am trying to enter the editors section and I am asked for a password and username...
"http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/France/Regions/Alsace/Haut-Rhin/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/" this is the link where I want to add my site...can anyone help? Am I doing anything wrong?
Thanx!

As reported in many other fora (surprisingly not in this one yet) this is a known bug. It has been reported to staff and will be solved, but there is no schedule yet. The script simply points to the wrong server...

Try again now. Some changes were made a few hours ago.

The ODP site is now on multiple servers. While the big hardware upgrade was being carried out various redirects were put in place. Now that all the hardware changes are done, there are software changes happening, and things being moved around. The editors machine is now fully password protected (both the published and unreviewed parts - previously only unreviewed was protected) and the redirectes removed. Scripts are being moved around too. The links on 460 000 category pages on each server needed to be refreshed too. It was never anticipated that this would be a perfect move.

You're not really supposed to do this and I might get yelled at for suggesting it but you can ever so politely email the editor for that category and ask them pretty please to add it for you, explaining the situation.

I don't know if you'll get a response or if he/she will add it but if you really can't get anywhere with the submit form it might be worth a try.

For some days now, I don't have the same error, this one is saying that:

There are a variety of different errors popping up. There really isn't anything that you can do but keep trying.

Oh well, life goes on.

Teresha, do you mean you can't submit, can't access the public side, can't access the editor side, or all three?

I've had no problems on the editor side. The configuration for the new system on the public side is still being adjusted, though the time outs are apparently due to overly aggressive crawlers. The problem will take at least a week to fix.

theseeker, at various times I can't submit (public side), can't access the public side, can't access the editor view and can't login.

I know it's an off and on problem and that it's being worked on. I'm not complaining. Just trying to let non-editors know that "they're not alone" smile

If you are using the public side and you ever see "editors" in the URL, or port "8081" then it isn't going to work.

If you are an editor, there is never any need to use the public side of dmoz.org as you can add new sites in your bookmarks and send them over to the unreviewed of the correct category from there.

Teresha, good to know. smile I wanted to make sure there wasn't a problem with your editor account.

I think it will be the middle of the week (Wednesday or Thursday) before there is any progress on fixing the current issues, so for most submitters, I suggest waiting a week, and then try again.

Looks like the public side is still down - I can't seem to enter any sub category.

Hi Teresha Aird,
I'm new here to Jim's world coming currently from Webmaster World. I linked to this thread as an example of an editor who could not get access to the lgin form. This was the response I received from hutcheson (an odp editor)

______________________
powdork, don't confuse editor access, which is working quite well now (finally...) with ex-editor access, which is another issue altogether.
_______________________
Of course, hutcheson could have thought I was talking about myself and my forum if he didn't follow the link. The thread at webmasterworld is called
DMOZ - Locked In the Cellar With No Food or Water
and hutchesons response is in msg 117
Regards

I am accessing the editor interface each and every day, editing for several hours each day. I did not notice any outages lately. If editors enter directly via the editor-side, I believe there are no current problems.

I really am sorry - like the other editors are - that the public interface isn't working properly right now, but there simply isn't anything I can do to change this. In the internal fora you can see that staff is working on this problem with high priority, so there is nothing for us editors to worry about.
