I just noticed yahoo's pagerank finally went to 10/10 - I think they took a tenth of my pagerank because i droped from 5/10 to 4/10

Keep in mind though that the Google toolbar pagerank is approximate and has been a fairly poor representation of reality the last several months.

i do not follow why has it been a poor representation? Isn't it just a system of how pages are ranked/rated in Google's eyes?

Theoretically, yes.
But ever since update Dominic, it has been wack (daughter taught me that). At first, many link pages lost their pr. Most got it back. Then it took a loooong time for new pages to get pr although that seems to have been fixed as well. In any case, PR is but only one part of a complex equation. Additionally, many believe that the pr on the toolbar may be clouded, or distorted to keep people from searching for pr based links. And just to add more fuel, many feel that the listed pr is not passed on in all cases. Examples would be guestbook pages and such.
Yahoo! is actually returning to pr 10 after losing that honor several months ago.

ah ok that makes more sense. Though what would be the most accurate way to find out a users PR - i have heard people say through the Google Directory but to me that seems like that would be the one with the bad or cloudy PR system because it's an outside directory google is using to catagories sites they may have not even indexed. Maybe i'm off with that - is there any true way to check a page rank or how "good" a page is doing? I know Alexa is just a mess and when looking at some of the sites in the Top 500 you wonder how/why they are even in the Top 1000 sites.
