Hi,
I am working on local reatiler website. They have 6 branches in 3 different states. But all at the end comes to one website. What I have done is created subfolder for each state and a susb sub folder for each cirty branch. So my question is when I submit to DMOZ shoudl I submit just one website or should submit all 6 links under each city category.

Thanks,
Quiznos

it's highly unlikely that they will get accepted in each regional category, unless you have significant content about that location, offerings, etc - more than just an address & local tele. in other words. you can try it if you do, but don't count on it.

I wouldn't attempt it until after you get your main shopping/category listing first.

Chances are slim to none to get your sites in using sub-domains. Enter your main site only or get unique domain names for your city branches and submit them to their prospective L&R topics. Do not cross link the unique domains or you could very well get rejected on those grounds.

Well, that's good advice. Working hard to sneak around the ODP guidelines and essentially trick editors is a really good way to get lots of listings for your site.

Not.

I'd pay attention more to skiguide's advice, if I were you. Concentrate on getting the main site listed. There's no harm in trying to get subsites listed later on but trying to do it in an underhanded way is just more trouble in the long run than it's worth.

I’m not an expert in ODP guidelines but I am well versed in other directories submission policies and unique submissions to multiple L&R topics are neither sneaky nor underhanded in any way. It’s quite acceptable as long as the sites are not cross linked or can be readily and easily accessed from a main page already submitted. It’s a matter of the type of marketing the submitter wants. In many instances it’s preferable to target market regionally. Travel and tourism is a good example of a service that does generally better with target marketing using regional submissions. I have been an editor for many years and would never promote spamming by anybody.

I concur on working to get your main site listed, and de-emphasize the subsites for now. When you work to get significantly different content on the subsites later, go for it.

Hi,
I am going start markting on a Travel site so I will be marketing some hotel chains in different cities under on site so this means I can still submit to different cities and target it to exact client market.

Submitting hotel chain information on a travel site to a number of specific cities is not a very good idea -- *that* could be considered spamming the ODP and could cause you lots of trouble. Consider that some of the worst spam we get comes from travel marketers and thus we react badly to getting even more of it.

If the content and domain are unique and the site offers significant value to the topic like regional attractions we would gladly accept them at Skaffe and GoGuides will accept them as well unless their submission policies have changed. The deciding factor is however the significant value they add to the regional topic. Submissions I like to see have a good deal of information about the area, maps and well done pictorials. The same accommodation on the same page layout with the only change being the domain will not get accepted in most directories. We all get bombarded with submissions like that.
