Hey!

I just tried the new red Thumbshots ball (next to green Google ball at bottom of page) and I have to say I am very impressed! I'm clickin' sites that I thought I'd never visit in a million years. Thumbshots make up for the seldom poor editting job at DMOZ. Oh lala...they have a cute Adult category too...hehe :D

http://dmoz.org/Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Advertising/

There's a cross topic at resource-zone. Seems like the editors, users found thumbshots so useful they added thumbshots into DMOZ faster than they add my links usually:

http://resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=53603&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

I'm glad anyways. Finally a worthy addition to DMOZ.

Very cool improvement! wink

Just checked it. Very nice indeed...

Anyone knows how to add thumbshots into my own ODP directory using one of the live scripts? I checked out ODP++ and Anaconda. They don't have it yet. I really want to add thumbshots to my site. Post it here if you know. I use PHP mostly but Perl is fine too.

That is pretty slick, wonder if they will keep it to ODP (which I would do were I them) or release them for inclusion with the Feed (which I would want were I using ODP data).

It does not work on my computer. On the page http://open.thumbshots.org/Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Advertising thumbnails do not appear at all.

The data is hosted externally to http://dmoz.org/ on separate servers.

Thumbshots is just one of many sites that use ODP data, but this one does so in a completely different way to the others. The idea has not come from within the ODP at all, but was openly discussed at RZ before any actions were taken.

According to their posting on resource-zone, they're updating all the thumbshots right now as we speak because of the recent dmoz-thumbshots popularity. Once done, they should be fresh and kept fresh every month or so smile

Does not work for me at all from New Zealand. I only get text pages with the green ODP gifs. Results are displayed separated by large amounts of empty space. On the left hand side of the page, I can only see empty space. I tried to access the pages via anonymiser.com, but it is impossible as well.

Mark,

On resource-zone, someone else mentionned they have the same problem because they were using some ad-blocking software and/or wierd firewall. You can report your bug here directly:

Thanks. I reported the bug and was efficiently helped. For future reference, in my Norton Internet Security, I went to Options - Internet Security - Web Content and I added www.thumbshots.org in the list of sites. At this stage, that allows me to see 98% of thumbnails. Some thumbnails still do not display at all.

" Some thumbnails still do not display at all."
Not all thumbnails do exist. That's most likely why :o)

Anyway, I don't see it as a good way that users have to add thumbshots.org to their firewall by hand... :-/

Well, at least the owner said so over at RZ, and why should he do so otherwise? smile
