I'm sure the answer to my question is somewhere on the DMOZ site, or in a searchable thread here, but it's 2am and I'm tired of looking.

DMOZ rules state: "Do not submit URLs that contain only the same or similar content as other sites you may have listed in the directory. Sites with overlapping and repetitive content are not helpful to users of the directory. Multiple submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites."

The first sentence in particual seems to freely interchange the terms URL and SITE. If I have successfully listed mysite.com in DMOZ, am I prohibitted from submitting the URL mysite.com/unrelatedstuff.html? My understanding is that you can only submit one URL from your site. But one of my competitors has multiple pages of their website listed in several categories and it seems to have a significant impact on their SE rank.

Different pages in my website can legitimately be listed in different categories and I would like to submit those pages to other categories if this is allowed. Should I do it?

I hope this is making sense. I'm not sure I'm being very clear at this hous.

In general, no, you should not submit deeplinks of your site.

The root url should be submitted to the single most appropriate category. If the editor/s determine that some sub sections of the site will add new and significant information to another category, they may add the sub section. Note this is an editorial decision, not a submittal one.

Exceptions: (There are always a few)
A site (root URL) may (depending on content) be listed in both a Topical category, and a Regional category.
A site (root URL) may be listed in each language the site is human translated to (no babelfish), in the World tree.
Truly different sub sections may be submitted, but apples and pears would be listed once in Fruit, not once each in Fruit/Apples and Fruit/Pears. The sections would need to be significantly different AND unique to be considered in two categories.

All you need to do is submit the homepage of your site to the appropriate category. Its as simple as that!

We do not ever equate one domain with being one site, and one site being one domain.

Geocities is one domain, but it has tens of thousands of unrelated websites on it; each one in a folder, and each one potentially listable.

On the other hand, some companies have registered thousands of domains for their one business, and then spread their content out across them all, linked them up in devious ways, and submitted some or many of them to various categories. As far as the ODP is concerned, the whole collection is treated as one site.

We care not whether your site is in one or multiple pages, folders, subdomains, or domains. The whole collection of related works, by related people, for related businesses is treated as one site.

The more you try to spread the content about, the more we view it as being sneaky spam, and the less chance it has of being listed.
