My company's products cover a wide range of directory categories. Of course, we have only one website. I'd like to submit a page for each major product line to the appropriate direcroty category, but I've heard that any given website should be listed only once in the "best" category. I understand why this is, but it does seem to limit multiproduct vendors such as we.

In case the above wasn't clear, if we are a manufacturer of mints and chocolate, can I submit only to "candy", or can I submit to "candy", "mints" and "chocolate" without penalty?

    Thanks for any recommendations.

I would guess that depends on which directory you submit to. Regarding DMOZ I would answer the "can I submit only to candy" with "Yes".

You most likely don't receive a penalty for submitting to all three categories, but you cause additional work with no additional bonus - the listing will only be in candy anyway.

As always exceptions are made when needed. A manufacturer of bicycles and candy most likely will receive two listings. A manufacturer of bicycles, candy, TVs and plastic flowers will most likely get a single listing in a category for "companies that pretend to do everything". But according to my experience that is a rather unusual case ;-)
