Is it me or is it next to impossible to get listed if you have a few ad's that help cover a site's costs?

sad

Hello Mike.
We volunteers have to follow a strict set of rules about commercial sites. You can post in the forums and ask for an opinion before you submit. If it is not acceptable as is, one of the senior people often will suggest what needs to be altered. HTH.

Ah! Thanks!

The thing that confuses me is that some sites that carry ad's get listed and others don't. I can think of a few that have modest ad's but their traffic means that they probably do very well out of it while the lower traffic sites that have to put more on to cover costs look more commercial as a result but earn less.

The frustrating thing for me is that often to produce decent content that comes somewhere near to that offered by subsidised free sites that are classed as non-commercial, eg, BBC, cover the bandwidth etc, you have to earn something.

It's starting to get very hard for the people in the middle trying to create unique and interesting content. Shame that there is not a range of categories - ad free home sites - moderate advertising supported but niche special interest sites - fully commercial sites etc.

The simple answer is...

- If the site looks like a site choc full of useful information, which surfers would love to spend lots of time looking at the information, and there happen to be a few adverts too - then it is likely that the site gets listed.

- If the site looks like it exists purely to make money for the owner, that is: it consists of a load of copied content, or poor quality content, that if the adverts weren't on the site then the owner wouldnot have published the other content either - then it is unlikely to be listed.

<edit>Ooops. Didn't spot the Zeal in the title with loads of windows open... take my response as it applies to the ODP, NOT Zeal</edit>
