Does Open Directory accept blog submissions? If yes, is there a special category for them?

Yes, they accept blog submissions--it's actually called a weblog in DMOZ. This is probably the best place to start:

Is that to say that all weblogs go in categories separate from regular websites? Or are some categories a combo of websites and weblogs? The reason why I ask is because my regular website is already listed with Open Directory in a category for a specific topic. I was wondering if I can submit my new blog which is about the same topic, into that same category or do I have to use another category just for weblogs?

It's perfectly fine for websites to have more than one listing in DMOZ. If you feel that the blog is worthy of being in the Open Directory and there's an appropriate category, I don't see why you shouldn't submit it. You should submit your blog to the appropriate blog category.

Don't forget that if your blog has an RSS feed available with it, you might consider submitting the RSS feed, as well, to the RSS feed directories.

    Hi cleong,

I can confirm to you that there are now new directories and new directory sections (of the established usual directories) where you can submit just BLOGS.

Some are for free, others require payment.

I have not yet seen any results about how effective they are in increasing the visibility or ranking of a submitted blog.

Welcome to anybody for sharing experiences with blog submission to directories!

    Cheers,
    eliseo

Yes, I have tried submitting to several free blog directories and a few are pretty quick on listing. I don't know if there has been any difference in traffic though.

    if you haven't done,
you can submit your blog to two blog directories:

    ((urls removed))

these two are kinda new, so they will list your blog quickly.
