Hello Friends,
I want to know what is effect of submitting our site to Web Directories which ask us to link back to them ? Does it anyway harm our site's page rank? I am asking this, bcoz i want to know whether google consider this is as spam ?

Also please let me know whether we should use link farming?
Thanks,

Hi webnewtons - welcome to SEF smile

I don't think there's any mileage in directories that require a link back - in fact I stopped gaining reciprocal links 18 months-2 years ago - and link farms are even worse!
Best look for directories that are relevant to your site that DON'T require a link back in return. Half a dozen on-theme links are worth more than hundreds of junk links - and be careful who you link to.

Read Googles guidelines, it could save you long term grief.

Good luck!

Don't do recips. Obviously the whole point of getting listed in a directory is to get YOU another backlink. Not to give the directory another backlink.

Thanks mate, for your valuable replies. I have another question, suppose i want to put my link to other websites, which are individual/bussiness websites (No Directories), and they ask for return links. So is it advisable that i put their links on my site?

Also another question.. say i linked one of the websites, and the website is a good one , but it has links to some of the illegal/spam sites, so will this affect my pagerank?

Good question, I'd like to know if linking to a site that links to a 'SPAM' site will get your site penalized.

If someone links to spam, then they become part of the "bad neighbourhood".

If you link to that "bad neighbourhood" then there is a chance that you join it to.
