Hats off to excell and sportsguy!

My exercise yesterday was to create a small campaign where I write about an important topic for our industry. I'll be honest, I had been having mental blocks about what to write as I don't have a clue about the details of what those suppliers do.

THE KEY:
I called each and every supplier before I emailed them my questions about my topics. They're experts in their fields. They know what they're doing.

Most were interested in receiving my email, and the fellow that wasn't interested gave me the answers verbally over the phone. I learned more in that little phone call than I had known previously.

Side benefit: All of a sudden I had a ton of new ideas to write about for my website.

After I compile all of the information that I've gotten from my phone call and email research, I'm going to have a strong article on the subject that i'm writing about. (This is where the links come in)

Because I've taken the time to write a thorough article about this subject, NOW I'll be able to go to those related industry sites and tell them about my valuable information. At this point they'll probably be much more likely to link over to my site, one way.

I couldn't see it before. I would write good quality articles, however I didn't feel confident enough in promoting them to other sites. With this type of solid research and credibility, it will be no problem to solicit links from other credible sites in related fields.

Again, thanks excell and sportsguy!

Side Note: In order to do this successfully, you have to have the mindset of an expert, which has its pros and cons. I don't mind putting myself out into the light as the expert type. This type of activity is certainly not for everybody!

Very happy to hear you made solid progress on this! Nice work!

You're bang on about "being an expert" - it's NOT for everyone, and you kind of have to be to claim to be. wink

That seems to be a barrier to entry.
While I am an advertising guy and have owned my own company since 1994, I am knowledgable about how to bang the drums with graphics, copy etc.

To sit and write article after article and be and expert in your client's field.. that's a little different. My clients are experts in their fields. I'm not an expert in their field. However, my clients don't like to write articles. It's kind of a catch 22.

Oh well.. by doing this type of research, at least I'll give the impression of being an expert!

smile well done - individual effort, custom building - learning more about the subject...all good!

sure it takes time, might even cost dollars, but at the end of the day hopefully you end up with something worth returning to or maybe even linking to! Sure beats all those dup content offerings with nothing more to add, doesn't it!

Agreed...

I am now a convert.

The beauty of this is that it's hard to compete with, especially if you're good at it. Your competitors would have to write as good of quality, and as diligently to keep up. I love that concept.

only prob, is that you will find folks tend to rip your content, and then guess what - the easiest thing to do after send out the cease & desist notices is to re-write it or update it.. mwwwahhh -> just what you wanted to know, isn't it!
