You will need a dedicated script which will check the links you have in your database fired at a regular interval. Whatever you do, don't use the RDF feed from DMOZ to populate your directory. There was a time when this was the most popular route to quickly get a directory up.
Recently I have seen many directories using DMOZ data dumped by Google.

Hamstead - good luck really? or good luck as in no way in he** can this be done? lol never know with you which way you mean it
Hey Prowler - long time no see
I can honestly say I never even thought of doing that. It ( to me any ways ) would be web site suicide !
However I am happy you posted it, so if some one was thinking of doing it they now know - DON'T!!!!

Oh boy I just thought of another question ( sorry ).
Is it wrong to have 2 completely different web sites and different content but have some of the same links on both web sites? One on a content ( women's articles ) site and the same links in a women's directory site?

Beth - good luck in a "I hope it all goes well for you" way.
With a bit of time and effort this could be a very useful directory and hopefully (with luck) lucrative too.

Nope - just make sure all linking done is useful to users.

Thanks Beth. I am around most of the time - but a bit quiet.
Many women centric sites I regularly visit display the same links as long as they match the theme. Talking of women directories, sky is the limit when it comes to their categories.

Hi,
Very interesting question - it’s another see tick box - Just do it....
The best directories are the ones that are structured logically and have many relevant categories. Page rank will give you an idea that it is crawlable - but the most important thing is if it is RELEVANT...If you can have a targeted link as well then even better.
