Over the last two days I have made changes to my site, I have noticed that google has been visiting by the date in my listing changing. This hasn't happened for the last four days though. Does this mean that the recent changes won't be picked up when the google dance happens?
I have many keywords 'child anxiety' is just one; out of 910,000 results for that keyword I am on page 1 position 8! Can anyone also tell me why I can do this with that keyword but not with the much more important ones like 'panic attacks' or 'anxiety'...it's just so frustrating and I don't really understand the technology! Thank you!

I'm not sure what sarah meant by that either.
Regarding your question, the new updates may or may not be included within the next update. It is necessarily related to the continuous updates noted by the date next to your listing. That is one type of crawling - usually called fresh crawl, the content for the update is another 'type' of crawling - usually called the deep crawl.
There isn't a lot of rhyme and reason to the fresh crawling. Often it will stop for a few days as you noted, but then start again - nothing to worry about. It is not a constant, but it is consistent through the month.
Not sure on your second question, I'll have to look into that - a basic question though - are you doing anything different for the terms? And is the competition for the terms different?

And there's a problem with that Sarah? I mean surely these forums exist to gain as much impartial knowledge as possible so that informed, educated decisions can be made by people like myself who need assistance with technical subjects like SEO. I don't understand your requirement to draw people's attention to the fact that I have posted the same question elsewhere...I didn't realise I was breaking some sort of code of ethics. I am sorry if I offended.
Logan, thank you for your reply, much appreciated.

There's an introduction to this Google topic on evolt.org (dated 2003-04-25).

charles,
It seems to me that your "more important" keywords are simply those that are more competitive, ie there are more sites competing for those terms. For example "anxiety" has about 3,320,000 results according to Google.
Interestingly when I clicked on the cached version of your site, I got a page I could not find by going through your regular site (I don't think anyway). How long have you been in Google?

Ive been in google about 3 months I guess, the page that is cached should be identical to the current page! AAAHHHH! What's happening? The problem I have is that anxiety is the most popular search term but also the most relevant! Panic attack and panic attacks come a close second. the more obscure keywords just don't produce the traffic. When I subscribed to sprinks, overture and adwords I had loads of traffic from those keywords but the leads were pre-prepared to see a product and on the defensive before even seeing my mine!
I know that people need this product, i have cured many, many people with it but it's just getting it in front of those people.

Charles, let me ask you a fair question... Are you spamming here?

Charles, my apologies, cached page is I think the same as your actual page, only difference being in the naviagtion on left hand side - is this one of the changes you had made? I'm viewing this on a mac and it doesn't display correctly so apologies for the vagueness, maybe someone else can verify actual and cached on a PC??

I don't even know the definition of spamming except for the email spamming I get day in day out! If you mean am I trying to promote my product through this forum, NO! is the answer, it never even crossed my mind. Why would promoting my product to such a small group of people help me? I just need some advice. I think I will stop using forums now, I don't know what I can and can't say and I've been accused twice now! Thanks to everyone who helped me and sorry to those I have offended...lokks like I will have to pay for help!

I didnt accuse you... It was a fair question. Your more than welcome to stay. I might also add (this is not a personal attack) you seem a bit high strung to be helping people with stress issues.
EDIT: I would also like to point out that this is not a small group by any stretch of the imagination.

I am when it comes to SEO. I am not a web developer or designer, just a person who wants to make a living. I first submitted my site to Google 8 months ago and have been fighting even for a listing since then. I have spent 6-8 hours per day researching link partners, optimising etc and it is getting really tiring! I just need some help, that's all.

Charles, we all understand just how tiring it is and feel for you. I had a quick look at your site and Google. Your problem is a lack of inbound links, as far as I can see. The #1 site for "panic attacks" shows 402 Google inbound links to your 6, for AV 169 to your 4 and MSN 110 to your 14.
My observation is that you are in a competitive area but not one of the highly competitive areas, so if you keep working at it, you should be successful. From your comments it sounds as though you are finding it hard to work on everything at the one time so perhaps you should call in an SEO professional for a while to give yourself a break, improve your rankings and improve your SEO knowledge. I dunno - you would need to do a cost/benefit analysis.
