Hi,
A very interesting point has just been raised in a meeting, can't find any related posts so it may not have been raised on here yet.
We have several different product websites designed from exactly the same template with each site having unique content. All the sites are on unique URL's but are all hosted on the same sever. We shouldn't have any problems with google deeming our sites as duplicates because the content is unique (I think google sees a site as duplicate if more than 75% of the code is the same - may be wrong!). Although we will not interlink these sites Google will know that there is a 'relationship' between them because they are on the same server and have been 'released' at the same time. We're just hoping that this isn't regarded as SPAM.
We plan to submit all the sites (6 in all) to around 250 directories in the hope of securing one-way links to the sites.
Now the question;
As we will be submitting all the sites to the same list of directories (very long tedious task I know!) at the same time.. are we at risk of our sites being penalised for SPAM issues? Google will identify that the sites have the same inbound links and could see this as artificle!
Are we best off submitting the sites seperately at different stages (i.e 1 site a week)?
We really want to do everthing right here... hope you can help us resolve our debate!
Thanks in advance!

Actually, Google really isn't the one to worry about. Since those are directories you're submitting to, most of them likely will have a human editor. Many directories only allow one listing per company. But if you have enough unique content then it might warrant having more than one of your sites in their directory. It really just depends on the editor and whether or not you pay for the listings or not.
Most likely you won't get every site listed in every directory you submit to, so I don't really think there's anything to worry about. Like you said, the sites are not identical in content so you won't have an issue with Google.
If you're worried about having the same links, then mix it up a bit--you don't really need every site listed in every directory anyway.

yep, have to agree with that dose of reality.
Curious if these are all on the same theme/topic/category?

Many thanks guys! Interesting point bhartzer.
The sites are all in the same theme area, I guess this will cause problems with getting a human editor to accept all the sites, there's no ligcal way of getting round this either.

Break your list of gadzillion directories and split it by quality into six groups. Each group of directories is associated with one site ... then mix it up and submit others (not more than 2 or 3 .... shhh ... don't tell anyone).
You don't need each site in a gadzillion directories. Just some, then work on how you can promote each in unique ways as directories alone are usually not an end but a starting point. For example, usually they only allow a title equal to the company/site name and not a Keyword Optimized Title as you may desire/need for rankings. Mix up your titles and descriptions.
