A site I know has results in Google from their .com and .net domains which are just mirrors of each other. I've sent spam reports but nothing ever happens, .com and .net results on the same page even !
Thousands of pages for the .net mirror are in Google as well as their main .com site.

Is Google allowing this these days because if they are I'll join in, there's no point being all white hat if people can get away with this ,rolleyeys

I have seen this happen over the years and over time it gets cleared up. How much time I don't know but from what I have seen it gets cleaned up.

One time google found my dev site and indexed it. I had my main site and my dev site indexed. Dup content all over! I went nuts locking my development site down. I was in the top 4 links on my key words. It took weeks to clean up but it did get cleaned up. I have seen other sites do the same but but not lock down (just mirror) and I have seen that one of the sites just drop off over time.

Exactly. The spam filters will eventually catch up with them as long as the same content that they're feeding the search engine spiders is the same content that you and I see on the site.

Well if they read their spam reports perhaps something will happen. No idea if the site is serving the same content to Google as we see. I don't think they (the site owners) are that sophisticated, but they did go to the trouble of setting up mirrors, so perhaps....... and BTW they have 3 mirrors not just one, 2 country specific ones and the .com and .net ones 4 sites in all and all the same site and all indexed in Google, thousands of pages - yes they're a competitor........ If only I knew someone in Google.

Don't get too excited about spam reports, I reported four sites that have hidden text, hidden text links, spam filled hidden content and are still listed on page 1 for generic terms, I have reported them quarterly for a year and ALL four are still on page 1.

White hat will always be the long-term choice.

Don't sweat stuff like this - sweat your own site's coding and content. wink
