Hi everybody, this is my first post here and I hope someone out there can help me or at least give me some ideas to try. My site ranked fairly well in Google for over 4 years, yet a couple months ago it has completely dropped out. I can do a search for my URL and all my pages are still indexed, they just don't show under any usefull keywords anymore. I used to get 250 to 400 unique visitors per day from Google, now I get about 20 sad My Page Rank is a 4. It has been about a year since I last updated the site, could that have anything to do with it? Can Google tell how old the pages are? My URL is in my profile. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Couple comments/questions

-- any issues with yahoo or msn?

-- linkdomain:www.your-domain-name.com in yahoo has 1000+ links. Are they unique good quality links? Any recip? Paid? Sitewide?

-- i'm not exprienced with domains with multiple dashes (i believe it can be one signal. if correlated to others also sites can drop.

I'd try to keep it going in y/msn, but realistic about any spam. If there is any, maybe pay an seo to evaluate objectively, clean it up and file a reinclusion request.

Wow, I had no idea that many sites had linked to me. I only have a handfull of recip links on my site, I will definitely be going down the list and adding more. Alot of them seem to be quality, on topic links. The only paid link I have is the Yahoo directory.

I have no issues with Yahoo or MSN other than I've just never showed up that well in MSN. Yahoo has always been good to me. I want Google to be my friend again smile

A few of my pages do have some hidden text, I will definitely clean that crap out and do a complete update of the site.

How do you file a reinclusion request?

Thanks!

Run Xenu LinkSleuth over your site and check for broken links - both internal or external.

Make sure that every page of your site has both a unique title and meta description, too.

Yes, most likely that has something to do with it. The search engines favor sites that are updated on a regular basis.

The site in your profile doesn't look like it's banned or anything so you wouldn't need a reinclusion request at this point. Take a look at the search engine guidelines at Google and Yahoo! and make sure you're compliant (i.e., hidden text, etc.) and check the site for broken links like g1smd suggests.

Hey Guys it looks much worse,

I checked out the site, no document structure, the terms MP3 CD and Free are at such a high density in the title etc that the site has duplication issues and has most certainly been hit with a penalty on generic stuff.

In addition Google only rates a small number of the pages in its index and if you check the database you will see www and non www listings, also try the two versions in the browser and you will find there is no redirect for the non www. This means another 'dupe' penalty has hit the website.

Of course there is more but whats outlined is enough to nail any potential for generic listings and is why the traffic fell through the floor.

That said the document validates very well so this is more of a bad practice issue than a real intentional spam issue and it shows how the unexperienced are getting nailed with the new filters etc.
